Topic: For those fishermen amongst you. See how it should be done.

Thought some would like this. Beautiful just in itself. Enjoy.

Subject: Fw: An Osprey Hunting

First sequence, he  catches half a dozen fish in one strike.

Second sequence, he  plunges talons into deep water right to the bottom to grab his  prey.

Third sequence, he  captures a big old fat fish that looks as if it weighs more than he  does!

Incredible  photography (best viewed in full screen mode)!

Very cool.  I've seen eagles do that to salmon in Northern Michigan and it's a show you never get tired of watching

Re: For those fishermen amongst you. See how it should be done.

Thanks for sharing this- great videos.  I love raptors and watched a lot of the Decorah eagles last year, and actually got to see them in May when I went to Iowa for Patty's Joe-fest.  This year I discovered the Dyfi Osprey Project in Wales and I am finding this even more interesting.  Link here:

The funny thing at this nest is that the female does not seem to like flounder - she has even thrown a few over the side when the male left.  Too funny.

Great shots. I wonder how he got the one underwater view of the flounder catch. We have Ospreys here that nest around one of the reservoirs and really like it when the trout stocking truck dumps a bunch in the lake.

that is some great photography, thanks PSmith. He almost bit off more than he could handle on that 3rd pass, but ended up "surfing with the alien".

Nice! That last fish looked like a smallmouth to me...if it was, it was a big one.

Liked the Osprey vid.  Always been a raptor fan, as well.

The shark vid was good, too.  Sure shocked the heck out of those folks.

I've had big Northern Pike do something similar up in Canada.  Was landing a good size smallie, once.  And then wham, right near the boat.  Looked like I had a two-headed fish/monstrosity on the line.  The pike let go, when I tried to wrangle it in near enough to land it, though.

The birds were definitely having better luck than I, on my recent trip to Moose Lake in northern Wisconsin.  But the Burton Cummings show was a great catch.

so they had a long talk with the bird and the shark about evironmental issues and conservation of resources, but turns out they were not real big on the release idea. lol

LOL...damn wildlife.  All for the preservation of endangered species, as long as they're the species.

BTW, that shark video made the 4:30 fluff news, here in Chicago.

I buy conservation licenses, generally.  But on the Canada fly-in trips, eating some of the catch cuts down on hauling in food.  The trophy fish always go back after measurements and pics, though.

Yeah I don't trophy hunt or fish.  I'm out for the table.  If I catch something I don't want, I don't even take them out of the water, if I can help it.  Those big breeders need to keep wet and multiply.

I'm not judging; just ain't me.

Re: For those fishermen amongst you. See how it should be done.

Yeah, me too. I'm a catch and cook for the table, with a big freezer and vacuum seal machine. I go out a few times a year when the tuna and yellowtail are running, catch enough for a year's supply and that will do. Inshore is catch and release, since most here have been swimming in toxic seas. I believe the local F&G when they say to limit what you eat due to heavy metals etc. yikes (how much poison is safe?)
