Fantastic!  The song doesn't lose any of its power due to the pared-down instrumentation, and Joe's singing is evocative.  Loved it!

Something odd going on there sound-wise, but still brilliant, as you blokes across the pond like to say!  big_smile

Wow! That was phenomenal!
I kept wondering how tough it is for Joe to take a song he's played thousands of times and not only play it on an acoustic, but at an entirely different tempo. He sure nailed it!

Review from an Austrian newspaper about the "first highpoint of the Vienna Jazzfest" - 4 1/2 stars out of 5. (What did he expect for the missing half star??)

Re: Goodnight Vienna-Acoustic Opera House Review

Superb versions of both Sloe Gin and Black Lung Heartache!  Joe really brings the emotions to these songs.  Thank you Pete for your tireless efforts both to record during the performance and to upload here for those of us who couldn't be there.  cool

Wow! That's outstanding! Thank you so much Pete! Love this song & always wanted to see it live,  a Pete the Cabby video is the next best thing cool  Kentucky is one of the largest coal producing states in the US, even though mining isn't done in the central part of the state that I live in, the history & culture and economics of the industry are a big part of every day life here. The song always conjours up so much imagery while listening to it. I had read Joe did research on mining when he wrote this during the time the Chilean miners were trapped.

Joe was really nice after the show, he signed autographs for everyone waiting. A really kind musician.

Re: Goodnight Vienna-Acoustic Opera House Review

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Goodnight Vienna-Acoustic Opera House Review

Pete, what fantastic videos, it felt like I was there! Hang on... I was!

I'd also like to say we weren't stalking you, but how you came to be on the same plane and then the same car-park bus is very strange. I said to Lisa, I bet we'll get home to the Midlands and see you driving past the house.

Nice to meet everyone and thank you all for being so kind as to invite us to the meal and make us so welcome. You're all a great bunch of people.

We had a ball, Vienna is a wonderful city, the concert was epic. The thunderstorm afterwards was kind of fitting.

Thanks so much for the link and welcome to the forum. If you'd like, give a post in the introduction section and tell us a bit about yourself and how you came to know of Joe.
