Adele : Pleasing background noise for the masses. Listened to by Soccer mom's and housewives everywhere. I'll be shocked if her album "27" sells quite as well. The 'masses' are a fickle bunch, the next "pleasing noise" that is marketed at them will usurp her and leave her in the dust. I hope she's thickening her skin as we speak, as well as hiring lawyers and accountants.
Sorry if I'm jaded by the whole thing, but it wouldn't be the first time, and won't be the last time the marketing machine drops her like a hot rock when the next 'hip thing' roll's around.
So she turns out a Jazzy Etta James tribute and it bombs...............

my 12 year old daughter is neither, and as I have said elsewhere on this thread Adele has inspired her and a lot of other girls like her to play her songs on a piano...if that is a bad thing then we are all in trouble.
Just done a quick search for Rumer on this board, and see that you brought her up on 2010 Brack, - well done for spotting her so early, - such a beautiful voice and another one who does not fit to the image stereotype. - Hope yo do not mind me bringing her in on this thread but I see similarities and think she is worth more exposure. You guys in the USA should look her out if you not threatened by anything that is not blues/rock...? Long live diversity, and long live the soccer mom

??????? I didn't find it insulting, and wonder how one inteprets that to be insulting to themself, even if one considers soccer mom's and housewives' taste in music to be antipathic to their own.
Perhaps you are just taking things to personally when some of us critique ("insult") the subjective qualitative value of, in some opinions, a second rate talent when compared to true legends. Adele is, for instance, no Dusty Springfield in my musical black book! Maybe more Lulu like... (And please note I am not saying I do not enjoy Lulu).

Ah yes Ian, Rumer, ... no problem! well searched - a beautiful voice also- some have said, her voice has overtones of Karen Carpenter - i can hear something.

OOOH NOOO, someones offended, call the thought police. Sorry if I hurt your little feelings. Actually, no I'm not. Personally I'm sick of PC crap. Some of the people I respect most are House wives. My mother was a housewife, as well as a hockey mom, so get bent. I find it offensive that you find "housewife" or "soccer mom" a derogatory term.

I understand and agree with what you are saying, - we should be allowed to share our opinions and speak up when something offends, - and you post highlights an extremely important issue that can no longer continue without sanction... The use of the word "mom" is WRONG as is the word "soccer", as the custodians of the ENGLISH language these abominations can no longer be allowed to continue.... Football mother please.

As Adele herself is soon to become a Mother and a Mum, and who knows, maybe she'll take her little sprog down to watch & support THFC in the future.
