Topic: Montreux Acoustic Project
Just got back from Montreux. I was going to put up some pics on my Fb page but my Iphone has crashed. Would you believe it? I stood right next to the mixing desk where I had the good fortune to meet Kevin Shirley. Very nice guy and even posed for a pic. The pics are my Iphone :-(
Well, here's the setlist (I got the copy on the mixing desk :-) ):
Palm Trees, Helicopters & Guns
Jelly Roll
Dust Bowl
Around the Bend
Slow Train
Athens to Athens
From the Valley / John Henry
Dislocated Boy
Jockey Full of Bourbon
Black Lung Heartache
Mountain Time
Woke up Dreaming
--------------------
Sloe Gin
Hadrian's Wall
After the set Claude Nobs presented Joe with a box of chocolates (the Swiss are not very original) and Joe played one more song, not on the setlist: High water everywhere. For Mountain Time he went back to the original version as on the As you like it album.
The band were from all over the place (I forgot their names) but the guy on the fiddle and banjo was from Ireland and Joe said he only met the band 4 days ago. There was a percussionist, a guy on honky tonk piano, accordeon, and harmonium, and one more on mandolin and some weird instrument which looked like a dulcimer.
There were about 10 acoustic guitars on stage in all sizes and different tunings. There was some great slide playing by Joe and the highlight (for me) was Woke up Dreaming. Rather predictable, I know, but I really enjoyed his slide playing, too.
