Topic: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Greetings, fellow JB fans.

The last three days have been almost surreal. I’m dumbfounded as to how I’d never heard Joe’s music until now … and yet I’m excited and grateful to have finally climbed aboard. My wife and kids have been very tolerant as I’ve walked around listening to Dust Bowl, DTTD, and Live From the Royal Albert Hall. I’ve been texting my music-loving friends and urging them to check out Joe’s material. And I’m already eyeing JB’s appearance in D.C. in November.

I just had to go somewhere (here) and find people who’d understand.

Planning to at least attempt to ration myself by starting with Joe’s first CD and then listen to them all in order, over a period of weeks or months.

But in the meantime, I just can’t shake that one question: How could I have missed such a talent for so long?

Thanks for listening. Now to make up for lost time!

You've definately come to the right place VaFan. All that you seek and desire can be found within these pages! Resistance is futile! There is no cure!

Welcome to the asylum!!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Nothing new here, you have seen the light thats all. Welcome to the mad house. I'm sure you will fit in well with an addiction like that.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Haha! We've all been there and understand. I thought the same thing in 2004...how in the #*!? is it even possible that I've never heard of this guy?? Since then I've told everyone I know (and lots of people I don't know) about Joe. What's cool is some of those friends are now coming back and saying "Hey, I saw your Bonamassa on Palladia (or public TV)...wow, he's really good"!
Well DUH!!!, I've only been saying that for eight years...glad you caught up! Lol

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Same old same old. Welcome as you can see I'm a newbie with the same story. Just saw Joe in Portland Maine-EPIC! Bought ticks for Springfield Ma. in November. If you can afford it but ticks to any show you can go to. It will be worth it.

Dont need a helmet to get me through life-walk across the water blame it on foolish pride.

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Thanks for the replies. Mary from the "Recently converted Bonaholic" thread described it really well: "I can't stop listening.... Kind of hoping that some of this will wear off but afraid it won't."

I was in a long business meeting yesterday and I swear, no matter who was talking, I had a "Slow Train" earworm running in the background.

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Welcome! You have a lot of catching up to do. smile Don't think twice about grabbing a spot at the live show, and soon or it will be sold out. If you think he is good on his recorded output, you have no idea what Joe live is like.

Yeah, by the time I'd climbed aboard, all but the last few rows at the Warner Theater had been sold, so I'm keeping an eye on StubHub and Craigslist. It's a long shot, but I'm hoping to find a seller with a conscience (for instance, a true fan who discovers semi-last-minute that he or she can't attend.)

Normally I'm not picky at all about seating, but after reading a bunch of reviews of that venue and seeing a YouTube clip or two, the remaining seats just don't seem like the right way to go -- at least not for my first live JB experience. If worse comes to worse I'll just bite the bullet and pay the scalper prices. (There are some scattered singles but now that I've brought at least one family member into the fold, I'm in the market for at least two seats :-) )

BTW I've recently watched a few interviews with Joe and I have to say that the guy seems truly down-to-earth. And that doesn't seem like a persona, either.

Wait, I'm on a Joe Bonamassa board -- you already know!

Yeah, yeah we do...   wink

As for tickets, while of course some seats are better than others, and in some venues there are positively wretched seats, I don't know that I'd pass on a chance to see him regardless of the seating availability (and I definitely wouldn't reward the scalpers!).  To paraphrase Richard Pryor, the worst Joe show you ever see is still going to be pretty good, right?  big_smile

I wound up in the nosebleed balcony seats for his show in Omaha, for instance, and still got my a$$ thoroughly kicked...   cool

As "Peggy" says in the commercial, "You inspire me!" I'm in. Four rows from the top, but I'll be in the house on 11/24.

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Apologies if it’s bad form to keep posting in a welcome thread, but I just had to share this.

One month after seeing the light, I have annihilated the iTunes credits (and then some) that had been in my account forever. Probably should have set up direct deposit with the man.

Anyway, the concert tickets arrived via snail mail, I’ve picked up every album plus the two BCC studio albums, and continue to enjoy these new-to-me sounds literally every day.

At the risk of TMI, I usually have my … “stuff” together pretty well, but the last month or so has been unusually challenging. Joe’s music gave me something to look forward to every day and helped me pull through. The healing power of music indeed.

Oh, and on a lighter note, to anyone else who’s just getting into Joe’s music, jump all over the Live From Nowhere In Particular CD. I’d held off on that one, figuring I already owned the studio albums plus Royal Albert Hall, so how much different could LFNIP be? The answer is plenty, and I’d consider it a must-buy.

That is usually one of the first recommended if new fans ask. Glad you got it.

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Nothing wrong with keeping your "Intro" thread alive, when you keep having fun with it.  Obviously, your fellow bonamaniacs are enjoying hearing of your shared addiction.

I generally use LFNIP to hook people who've heard some Joe (hard not to when somebody knows me), and it's time to reel them in.  A buddy of mine is hosting a BBQ next weekend, and I've already been asked not to forget the Joe.  Being known as the guy with the full collection can be a problem.  Have to torque on people about buying their own copies.  And no, I don't burn them, even for best friends.

Glad to hear you went nosebleed for the show.  I would rather see those go, as well...heading towards another sell-out.  And not contributing to the inflation of prices by scalpers, or people who seem to buy just to resell at a profit--maybe not pros, but they are no better, in my book.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but -- mostly as an FYI to fellow newcomers -- Barnes and Noble onlinle has a 3-for-2 DVD sale with free shipping. I grabbed RAH, Beacon and Live Over Europe and am hoping they're delivered in time for the weekend smile

Oh, and that 3-for-2 also applies to CDs.

A heads up post like this is appropriate and a great addition to Off Topics where it will be appreciated by many. Thanks for the tip! smile

Re: Another Case of Better Late Than Never

Thank you, Rick.

Meanwhile, I'm having second thoughts about that wish for weekend delivery. It likely would preclude most of my productivity.
