Topic: A New Day Now

Hi All

It has been a very unique and wonderful week for me.  I had
an experience probably some of you have had.    I was surfing on
Youtube.com for one thing and found another.   For me I was
looking at old Jethro Tull videos and saw a link to "A New Day
Yesterday" and fired it up.  Only it wasn't Jethro Tull.  I almost
jumped over it, but it sounded bluesy and I let it run.  After
it played I sat there stunned.   Asking myself, "Have I been
living under a rock?"  So I headed to the music store.

I listen to Jimi Hendrix and SRV all the time.  Led Zeppelin,
Cream, and other mostly "classic" blues rock.  I am 55 years
old.  So I have been listening to this for a while.    smile

I thought to myself, The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
I've missed Jimi and SRV a lot.  But the Lord has given with
Joe Bonamassa.    Praise the Lord and thank You, Joe Bonamassa !
and fans....

You go Joe
You go man
You rock
You wail
You break my heart dude
You make me smile
and you bring me home
You stay a while Joe
Sing and play, you know how
Yesterday was blue but it's
A New Day Now

Chris

Welcome to Bona-land, doctorxring!!

I'm just saying.

Re: A New Day Now

Welcome Doc, don't feel bad, I'm 54 and consider myself to have my finger on the pulse of what's happening in music. I was dumbfounded 2 1/2 yrs. ago when my neighbor laid a copy of Blues Deluxe on me. Well to make a long story short, things haven't been the same in my music world since.

                                                                                                           J Dawg

P.S. I've heard even Ian Anderson was impressed with Joe's version.

Re: A New Day Now

Thanks!

Yeah, the first thing I did was run around town and find all the CD's that
are out.  Also pre-ordered Sloe Gin.

I believe that about Ian Anderson.  He appreciates musicianship and has roots
in the blues too.

I wish Joe would give "Cat's Squirrel" a ride some time !   I really like Mick Abrahams/Tull
version, but I bet Joe could one-up it for sure.    I love all of Joe's rock covers.
That ZZTop/LZ one is awesome.  I bet I've played that Berlin video 50 times.   I wish that
was on a CD ----- or is there a solution for getting that song that I haven't found yet ??

best,  Chris

Re: A New Day Now

Welcome aboard Doc, i discovered Joe at the end of 2006 and I don't think there has been a week since when i haven't listened to one of Joe's songs.

About the ZZtop/LZ cover your talking about im assuming you mean the "Just got paid" and "Dazed and Confused" medley? Well i don't think there is a studio version of it but if you go to this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/jones/sessions.shtml  there you can downlaod some of Joe's live songs recorded at the Sheperd's Bush Empire by the BBC and there is a 20 (well 19:50) min version of that song with a drum solo and a song called Starship Trooper at the end aswell.

The file you download isnt the actual song, it opens up real player and streams it. I used some software to record it as an mp3 file which if you think would be handier i could send to you. Same applies to anyone else who needs it, jsut give me a shout. I'm trying to get all the songs available from that concert both the oens available to download and the ones from the radio show. Hopefully it will be released as a proper CD, great show.

Also if you want to know how i recorded the songs i used a free audio recorder from download.com

Hope this helps,
Matt

Re: A New Day Now

Welcome, Doc.  I think we've all asked ourselves if we were living in a cave the first time we heard Joe. Where do you live and any shows coming up around you?

That's right Doc, Michael has some antidote, but it's on the other side of the pond. However if you're in the SF area by chance the Shred or the Dawg could give you a fix, for a few beers or three. Just kiddin' we spread the love for free as do the rest of the Bonamasses. Tell us a little more aboutcha' Doc.

Re: A New Day Now

I picked up all of Joe's albums up to the current one and have pre-ordered Sloe Gin.

I'm just so happy about this.   I really did not expect someone like Joe to come along
after Stevie Ray passed.   My favorite album is the Live version of A New Day Yesterday.
I'm going to see him first chance I can.

My nickname, DoctorXring, comes from a combination of my profession as a Pharmacist,
and one of my hobbies, competitive shooting.   As far as music goes, if it has a blues
rock beat and good guitar I like it.  My favorite musical "opus" -- Spoonful from the
Cream Wheels of Fire album.    But this could change now.....     smile

Chris

Re: A New Day Now

What's up Doc? A Pharmacist..You're one of my favorites already! A large number of forum members are AARP eligible so you're not alone. Joe has given many of us hope for the future of the blues. I would recommend that you join the Street Team because once you have the Bonabug you can't help but preach the gospel of Joe!  Warning, there is no cure! Also, if you venture into the world of "Other Artists" here you are going to be turned onto a plethera of great talent..so much music..so little time......Welcome and come back often..Cathy

Re: A New Day Now

Welcome aboard Doc.  On several live shows from '06, including one or two I saw myself....the end jam of "A New Day Yesterday" morphed into a "Spoonful" jam....guess it was a lil' tip o' da hat to Clapton, et al.  Don't know if anyone has it on record (tape/CD) or not...I'll keep my ears open.

Spread the word and enjoy the tuneage!

Re: A New Day Now

Chris,
There's been a number of topics here about what one Joe song you'd play for someone if you wanted to make them a fan....A New Day Yesterday definitely has the "hook" to it. One of my favorites and I'm glad it grabbed you too. Welcome to the forum.

Re: A New Day Now

Hi Chris,
Welcome to Bonamassaville!  This is me smiling back at you, nice story! smile  My favorite things about this board are: reading about how excited new fans are when they discover Joe and getting turned on to new music by all the great music lovers on here!

Being your line of work...to paraphrase another fan...discovering Joe is like a shot of adrenaline...Addiction to Joe will set in pretty quick...no doctor or nurse is gonna' help...maybe a straight jacket...Make sure your collection includes the 2 DVD's of concerts, they can hold you over when you need a "Joe fix" !!

Are you into skeet, trap or sporting clays?

Yo Joe fans

If anyone has a file on the Just Got Paid Today/Dazed&Confused cut
I would sure like to have it.   I tried the solution Matt had, but I couldn't
get it to fly.  My iPod wants that cut.   smile

Angela --   I've done some shotgun, but mostly High Power rifle competition.
But I love tinkering with anything that will shoot.  I'll get those DVD's.  I think
all that screaming by the fans get's Joe going.  I just love that live ANDY album.
