The Custom shop reissues SG's have those nice wide necks on them..... & I'm still a SG nut after 38 years....

Never played a custom shop anything, but I noticed the 61 reissue SGs have a slightly thinner neck. And my regular, run of the mill standard SG does seem to have a noticeably wide neck/fretboard, but thicker neck. Heck, I think I'm gonna take it out next gig!

Yeah they claim it has a 50's rounded profile.  I love mine.  I haven't really played any other guitar since I got mine back.  Gigged with it twice already!

I can understand why people do like SG's, but I always feel like they're so thin, I mean physically thin, that I'm going to snap the neck off..!!

Even though I'm sure I wouldn't - I'm not THAT strong - I can't help shake that feeling.

And I had chance to play a real beaut on a regular basis for a number of years as a good friend had a 60's (can't remember the exact year now) cherry red one...

Well, I never had any real love for SG's other than P90 powered Juniors but after realising I'd got so much of me invested in my 73 Custom and 02 Standard Les Pauls I figured I needed a decent quality gigging guitar that I could stand going walkies on an involuntary basis (getting nicked). Or so I thought..... So, sling in a couple of Irongear Alchemist P90's, change the caps for tone and treble bleed to Orange drops and set the thing up properly with 11's and you get this stunning piece of kit.

I'll be the first to agree this is nowhere near Gibson quality but by setting aside my guitar snob inner self I've discovered one rocking guitar.

Lesson: Tone is spelt "T O N E", not the way the name on the headstock is spelt

Been wanting a vibrola?lyre style trem for my SG. They look awesome. I don't even care if they don't work well, I just like the looks of them. Also, love that blue color! Always did like the SGs in that and the hospital green'ish color.

Yep, the colour and the maestro were the clinchers on this one. The neck shape was an added bonus.
The colour speaks for itself and the maestro adds weight to stop the nose dive. The added bonus is the shallower string break angle over the bridge (similar to wrapping the string over the top of a stop tail) that allows the use of 11's

If you hung your guitar a little higher you wouldn't get the neck dive.  It oly dives when it's low on your body.

Yes, I take your point but after so many years playing I've tried playing the guitar in all positions across my body and where it hangs now is the place where I can feel what the guitars is giving me back rather than just playing it.
