Topic: Perspex baffles... again...

One of my friends owns a plastics manufacturing company, specialising in perspex, acrylic, polycarbonate etc.  I know that several people have made their own baffles (mainly because Clearsonic stuff is *way* expensive over here in the UK), but I'm going to get him to make me a couple.

However, he (of course) has a minimum order quantity, which got me thinking...

Is the demand for a lower-priced option there? Or has Clearsonic already cornered the market?  My local music shop has received about a dozen enquiries over the last 6-9 months, and thinks they'd only sell about the same amount every year.

Is it worth pursuing?  Would anyone be interested?

Just a thought...

Re: Perspex baffles... again...

They might not have the market cornered but if you can make a quality product at less cost, then you might be able to get your own market share.

Re: Perspex baffles... again...

I made my own from a company in the UK...ended up being a bit cheaper than the Clearsonic...but not much...
TRENT PLASTICS FABRICATIONS LTD
I thought it'd be an education, much like modding your own guitar and fiddling with amps...
I would like it to be half the price if you are making your own. It is a real pain making your own...even with pre-cut and rounded edges.

Re: Perspex baffles... again...

Thanks guys.

I'll admit, I'm a fan of DIY - I've built (ok, *assembled*) a few guitars and effects pedals - but I know what a right PITA perspex can be...  And if there's a local expert willing to assist, it seems crazy not to use them.

I've got a meeting booked for Thursday morning - we'll see how it goes from there!

Re: Perspex baffles... again...

I beleive the  Cleasonic ones are polycarbonate and the scratch resistant stuff, very expensive. If  anyone has access to reasonable pricing in the UK let me know please as i build a few baffles.
