Topic: The Genius Has Passed

Bay Area football fans hearts are at half mast suddenly today learning that Bill Walsh, architect of the 49er dynasty has lost his battle with leukemia at age 75. It's 5pm so I'm gonna tune in the news which will be dominated by the sad news.

Re: The Genius Has Passed

What a bummer, you got to have been around the Bay Area to really realize what Bill meant to us niner fans. It's funny, he started his coaching career in Fremont at Washington High school in 1958, I had a coach in high school that played there when Bill coached, he said that he never would have guessed he would take his career to that level. The guy was so intellectual, he had a difficult time relating to some of the kids, guess thats why he ended up at Stanford twice. I'll be hitting the niner games again shortly, we'll all be in remorse for sometime, it's funny how our sports heroes can grab us like family at times.

Re: The Genius Has Passed

As a 49er fan who knows the Cowboys have 2 unauthorized Super Bowl appearances (back in the Brodie days)....I was deeply saddened to see Bill Walsh go to the Great End Zone not riding on players shoulders...the great coaches are hard to bury without psychological monuments in my soul.  Take your hats off for me out there.  It'll be just blurbs on the news here back east.  Born & raised New York but still 49er faithful.  Bill I need tickets!!! Got any sway up there??? Say Hi to Vince Lombardi for me!

Very sad to hear of Bill's passing - he had alot of influence on the Packer organization
and lots of our players/coaches will miss him.

Watchin' the 49ers playin' the Broncos on the newly named Bill Walsh Field @ Monster Park aka Candlestick in SF. A fitting tribute. Unfortunately these aren't Walsh's 49ers.
