Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

They are making a lot of people believe now, hanging tough but quite a ways to go to the break. We have played well since the 8 game losing streak, but a loss yesterday orchestrated by our manager Freddie Gonzalez (we won't go into it). We need to gain some ground with better pitching, however we have the hot Yankees coming in to Turner tonight.

What a great day for the Nats yesterday with all division rivals losing! That boy Harper is something! Any of you see how he got home from first in the ninth? He can run! cool

I'm slowly starting to believe that their position really is no fluke since they're now 12 games over .500. wink

Glad to see some fun going on out there. At the other end of the spectrum another of the Pads staff just had elbow surgery. Morning fishwrap baseball hilites were the A and AA  farm clubs putting a bunch of players on their respective Allstar teams.... sportswriters seeking counseling. Giving the Cubbies a run for the money with a half game grip on worst. Lots of ball left to be played, so there's no relief in sight.   lol

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

all kinds of celebrations in Atlanta this weekend for John Smoltz's induction to Braves HOF and retiring his number, this is hilarious and maybe a little embarrassing.

NL East starting to spread out a little, we need a win tonight to avoid the Yankee sweep. Anybody see how he got home last night? YIKES!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Watched history last night on the tube. Matt Cain throwing the first perfect game in Giants history. Tip of the hat to his catcher Buster Posey who called all the right pitches obviously since Cain never shook him off once. 27 up, 27 down!!!

Great result for Cain, congrats to him and the G's! A little help from his friends with some great defense which was just the luck he needed to preserve the in-order outcome.

There were 3 defensive gems to preserve the no-no, especially Gregor Blanco's laid-out catch. Even Bochy said he'd never seen a right fielder cover that much ground to make a catch. Really a great team effort to help Cain get it done. Now if SF can just make up 3.5 games on those Fargin' Doyers!!!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

interesting coinkidink in that perfect game, Gregor's catch was on a hit by Jordan Schafer, his former teammate when both were at Atlanta.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I saw only the briefest of highlights, but everyone whom I heard commenting said that Cain is the nicest of guys, a true servant of the club, etc., which makes this rare achievement even more memorable for all Giants fans - tip of the hat to Jdawg! wink

Such a shame it had to happen on a day when Strasburg pitched yet another blinder, the Nats hit three homers in a game for the first time this season, and completed a road sweep of Boston and Toronto. Really looking forward to see how they will fare against the equally on-a-roll damn Yankees in this weekend's series in DC.

Is this the first time there have been 2 perfect games in a single season? There seem to be a relative rash of perfectos of late.

Just checked...two in 2010 and two in 1880.
Of the 22 total perfect games, 5 have been thrown since 2009...almost 23%.

How about my Mets and RA Dickey!!!!? The first pitcher in 100+ years to have back to back 1 hitters and 10+ Ks......i still can't believe his run....neither can Phil Niekro!!! GO METS!!!!!!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

good to hear from you Alan, indeed he is rolling and at this point would be our starter for the All Star game. Kind of funny how it happened, it's a great story. Sadly my Braves will get to see him often this year.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

good news, bad news, it comes with the price of admission if you have a fav team. The bad news, Brandon Beachy our leading starter will see Dr Andrews in Pensacola today to verify that Tommy John surgery is needed. It's about 90% sure that it's not going to heal on it's own. That would be 12 to 13 months gone. We may be looking to add a pitcher before the trade deadline.
the good news, we ended the Yanks 10 game streak last night, by the hardest having to throw out 2 at the plate. Jason Heyward had a great night, but the bats have got to pick up going forward.

woohoo, 2 out of 3 from the Yankees at their place. We bombed them to death today with 5 or 6 dingers.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

congrats to Jason Heyward for last weeks efforts, and he has been outstanding in the field as well.
