Topic: Lonely Town Lonely Street

Question for Joe...
Was the solo in Lonely Town Lonely Street a tribute to Paul Kossoff?  In my opinion I hear a big Kossoff influence especially from the solo in the studio version of Woman.

If it is or isn't, it's a great tune.  It's been in my head all day so I had to figure it out this evening.
Evening being that I'm in Germany for the next year for work.  I'll see you in Mainz.

Re: Lonely Town Lonely Street

Joe has stated many times that Kossoff has been a huge influence on him. I'm sure those licks just come from studying Free records when he was younger. It probably wasn't anything planned out to be a tribute, just came out sounding like that. But who knows, I'm just speculating.

Re: Lonely Town Lonely Street

Yeah I know Kossof is a big influence on Joe.  Partially  The main rif's chords are the same as  Woman as well.

Well the song was written by Bill Withers so that's where the main riff comes from.

FWIW, this link actually shows Bill playing the tune on acoustic guitar.  Live in 1973.

A different flavor, perhaps, but it's vintage Bill Withers.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.
