Topic: A Picture of Joe given to Him for His Birthday...

I was thinking, maybe I should explain my avatar. I have just a couple of pictures to show you regarding a gift I gave to Joe for his Birthday when I saw him at the Greater Des Moines Civic Center this past May 3rd. By the way, what a Fabulous Show! cool

It's not news that I have given Joe just a few small things when I get a chance to see him. However, because it was his 35th Birthday on May 8th, I thought about giving him something special that would mean a lot to me and eventually to him too. So while my very talented and beautiful daughter Sarah was on semester break from college, I asked if she would consider drawing, painting or whatever she decided to use, a picture from photos that I took of Joe back on January 31, 2008 at the Coach House out in San Juan Capistrano. Sarah agreed to the task and of course, I offered her compensation for her time. Hey, no one gets anything for free, not even dad's! wink

I gave Sarah a link to my Flickr account of the pictures I took of Joe that evening and asked that she pick one out of a series of photos I took while Joe stood over me playing, "Woke Up Dreaming". Here's the link and this is the picture Sarah chose: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8384830@N0 … 3851258350

It took Sarah only three hours to come up with the drawing done in charcoal on a white hardboard of that picture. I then took my original picture to a digital photo processing place who were able to change it to black and while and make it a flat finish in a 5 X 7 picture. Then it was double matted and professionally framed.

I gave the picture to Joe at the Meet and Greet before the show with hopes that he may consider hanging it in his father's guitar shop in Utica, New York. Joe told me as soon and he was done with the M&G, he would send a cell phone picture of it to his dad. The next day Joe's Tour Manager Clancy, confirmed it was being shipped to Mr. Bonamassa in New York. And so, here are pictures of the actual framed drawing and of Joe receiving the gift. Keep in mind that you're actually looking through a plastic cover while viewing the picture. I left that on just in case it was going to be shipped somewhere to add a little more protection. A great though and a great gift I am sure will be appreciated. Your daughter certainly has talent.

Very nice Roy. I wish I'd had a chance to see that there, but it was pretty busy in that lobby and we took more time checking out Nic's goldie than wandering around looking at all the stuff folks had.

Re: A Picture of Joe given to Him for His Birthday...

You know what's funny Rick? When Joe opened the picture up he asked, "Roy, what guy drew this for you?" Well, I did chuckle a little bit and said to him, "No guy Joe, it's a young woman artist that I commissioned to do this rendition of a picture I took of you at the Coach House back in 2008." Actually, in one of the pictures, you can see Joe looking at the picture and my hand showing where the artist's signature was. I then read off the name, "Her name is Sarah J. Ebert", and Joe said, "Oh, Ohhh!" To which I replied, "Yes Joe, Ebert, same as my last name because, it's from my 20 year old daughter Sarah."

You see, I wanted to give something to Joe that would mean something very special to me that can't be bought at a store. So I decided to give him a little something from my daughter whom I love and have cherished for over 20 years. There will be no other Birthday gift I could ever give Joe that will top this, not even if I found a vintage and original '59 Gibson Les Paul that belonged to someone famous. That would pale in comparison to me...

P.S. I had the picture wrapped in Spider Man paper and was actually wrapping it at 04:00 AM the morning of the show at my home in Wisconsin while Nic hit the sack. Gee, he drove all the way from Detroit, Michigan to my home in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. The least I could do was to have a nice Prime Rib roast  on the grill ready for him when he got there. I think we ate after 01:00 AM, but it's all a blur now. We got up at 06:30 and soon hit the road bound for Des Moines. And the rest as they say, is History... wink

Here is a current drawing that Sarah is working on at home now. I have no clue where in the world she even comes up with an idea like this! Enjoy... http://www.flickr.com/photos/8384830@N0 … 5470/show/

Re: A Picture of Joe given to Him for His Birthday...

That's really cool.  All I gave him for his bday was a handmade leather watch strap for some of his watches.

The charcoal drawing done by your daughter I'm sure will draw comments and admiration for years to come.
