Topic: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

Joe, when you were using the Van Weelden Twinkleland amp as your second amp for your solo tone did you use to the clean channel or the overdrive channel and did you plug into the high or low input?

Thanks.

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

On the rundown video at the Carre Opera house he's plugged into the "Low" input of both Van Weelden. I would guess he's in the dirty channel, but thats purely a guess. Since his grit is derived from the amps and not pedal based like most of us who are forced to play at lower volumes, I'd say the dirty channel.

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

Yeah in the rig rundowns when he plays each amp individually it sounds like its on the dirty channel, but then again he could just be running the amp really hot...Hopefully the man himself will weigh in.

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

In the same rig rundown, he turned the volume down on the guitar to clean up the tone so I guess that does suggest that he is running the amps really hot. I don't suppose that helps as to whether he is using the clean or dirty channel, I guess at that volume it doesn't really matter either how.

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

Joe was online earlier and didn't respond... But you never know!!

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

I'm sure I read or heard him say sometime that he tended to run clean and use pedals turned lower so the volume remained virtually the same but he got the tone he needed.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Bright- down

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

The iPad version of Guitarist magazine has an excellent video rig rundown in the "Cream" issue. Filmed at the Bic in Bournemouth (the "Malibu of England"). The Twinkleland is clearly seen. The settings are:
  Low Input
  Volume 6
  Bright switch DOWN
  Deep UP
  Hot (Rock) UP
  Treble 10
  Middle 6
  Bass 5
  Level 6
  Ratio 7
  Master 7
  Brilliance 5

This particular video does the best job I have seen as far as capturing the different nuances of the individual amps in his rig.

Thought I saw a brief clip of this on youtube.. Is there a link for the complete video?

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

My ears say OD channel all the way on his lead tones!

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

Yeah I think he mentions using the overdrive channel in a video.

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

Just watched a newer Joe B "gear vid" that was posted on The Gear Page. Joe said he used the Van Weelden OD for his solo tone.
It's also very obvious to hear when you listen to the video...

Re: Questions about Joe's Van Weelden amp (solo tone)

I also noticed he has the volume pegged on one of them, the bottom head. I thought he said that one was set to the clean channel. But yes, the top one OD.
