Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor to play for the Queen!!

The Wings, check out the history of the song, the title, Dave Stewart (mentored Joanne when she was a teen). The mix was not briliant but is was not too bad, you could hear Joanne, Annie was encouring her, it is a classic track, Annie Lennox!,, For publicity what more can one ask for.

Angel wings?!? What for?

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor to play for the Queen!!

She can surely play, pity Annie Lennox kept wailing over the top, could have been about 50 watts louder also.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

What a dull event overall.

Too bad her boyfriend wasn't there to tweak the sound for her. He was gushing with pride over her performance on FB.

...err! ...lets just say it was symbolic! ...you have to look at the monument it was performed on top of to start with ...not that the participants would have understood or been aware of the symbolism they were partaking too!?

Jo' done great! ....hope she gets some serious recognition for her efforts! wink

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor to play for the Queen!!

On the news yesterday , they said the Queen was wearing earplugs !

I noticed that too. Not the greatest lead tone, even for a pop song. Perhaps she had to use the backline that was available including the Les Paul?
She played really well, though and that bit at the front of the stage gave her some good exposure.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor to play for the Queen!!

Jo used a supplied Peavey amp. I believe the LP is her own but will check. Through the whole gig guitars we quiet in the mix. I suspect Jo's pedal board was not working as I saw her foot move but no lift to her sound.
That said Jo still came through just fine (had the sound surround on as it was broadcast in dolby). It was a monster occasion (does it get any bigger). Let's not take he he off by analosong it too much. It's a PR dream for any artist. Jo out of anyone I know deserved it most.
Another to consider is the logistics of the gig, it was a huge undertaking. Overall it went very well.

Agree 100%. She's an outstanding player and I hope that performance will boost her career even more. Her "Red shoes" in a way.

Yeah, had to say at 1st, I wondered about "the wings" - thought a hen-party had stumbled on stage, but we are talking Annie Lennox here. Good job Joanne wasn't backing Grace Jones..... Also thought the sound was a bit "down", but given the logistics of the event, and then, as Martin says, she was using a supplied Peavey amp. I'm no muso, but always thought Peavey's sounded "tinny".

All that said, what I heard of Joanne was great - another of her "pressure cooker" solos. Really good of Annie Lennox to at least move over and let Joanne have centre stage for her spot. Really pleased for Joanne.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor to play for the Queen!!

Thank God there was a vid posted because ABC didn't air the entire show, and no Jo sad  The video is great and I felt immense pride! A once in a life time opportunity. She sounded great. smile  Cathy

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor to play for the Queen!!

Where's a video link? hmm

Your Queen with earplugs.  Hmm.  What's so unusual about that? I thought it was a more commoner standard attire for her?!

Super Great Sweet Deal for Joanne Shaw Taylor! Not sure of the distilled value, but it certainly has to have very good immediate impacts, plus much recurring value to be harvested in the near future! wink  Love that woman.  Fabulous publicity and face it, sound for the entire event wasn't up to snuff (at least what I could bear to watch and listen, but understand I did NOT, have not heard or seen the Joanne Shaw Taylor performance yet), as if if really matters in a party atmosphere like that.  Good times is what counts the most, and the time-stamped memory will brew up a sea foam of excited, curious, remembering, seeking & finding fans.   That kind of exposure co$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ts, usually significant soul dollars too, big time.  But to gain it as a windfall like this was-HUGE, and as Martin said, no one more deserving of it than Joanne!!!!!!!  big_smile cool cool cool

Here ya go, Rocket. This is really only worth it for Joanne. If that dress of Annie's had been a bit shorter she wouldn't have had to lift it every time she went down a stair.

Thanks, George! I guess I forgot the word queen in my YouTube search.

That sounded good.  Joanne's soling, I thought, was pretty much perfectly in touch with the music.  Also saw her exposed on those big screens laid out even way back.  Thought I detected a hint of respectful applause for her?!

Anyway, Joanne is both Regal and Angelic in one lovely AND talented package.
