Topic: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Hey guys, (like Rus) I am approaching the purchase of a new amp, but I'm not sure as to what my first purchase should be.... I'm aiming for a full Ceriatone 3 amp rig consisting of: Ceriatone 2555, Ceriatone OTS and a Ceriatone Bluesbreaker. (maybe a tweed twin or a blackface Ceriatone at one stage as well)

Which one of these amps would be the best to purchase first to use on its own?

I'm playing blues rock in a similar vain to JB's music if that helps....

Cheers Guys!!

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Hey stefanhauk,

My first thought would be to get the Ceriatone 2555. If you're playing JB style blues rock...then a Jubilee style amp should be your anchor tone. Then add the OTS and Bluesbreaker for color as finances permit.

On the other hand you could probably get a lot of mileage out of a Bluesbreaker amp by itself.
Just my 2 cents.

For JB type tone I would start with a Marshall Jubilee ( if you can find one) then build from there. A Jubliee and a Carol Ann would be great. Not sure what your budget is.
Category 5 makes a great Joe Bonamassa Jubliee type amp. A Category 5 and a Carol Ann say a OD3 or a Twinkleland. Again not sure of your budget.
Cheers Ron

Yeah Ron my budget is extremely limited so I can't spend heaps.. Ceriatone is my only hope of getting a jubilee....

I have a ceriatone 2550. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whRpVJwC … ature=plcp here is a video of me using it live...I recently bought a Marsh ODS...basically a Dumble clone and they blend real well.

Sounds real good mate!!

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Stefan if you're dead set on the Ceriatone, then go for it. I'd put my stock in the 2555 model right away. On its own you'll have pretty much "the sound" you're after. A good 2x12 and you're in business. Don't worry about getting something with EVs necessarily, just decent speakers. Stratpaulguy on here got the tone with regular celestion 75s.. They aren't everyones favorite but I have some and they sound really good inside a well built older Marshall cab. Just saying you don't need to lug around heavy a$$ speakers, save that for when you go on tour and have roadies!

But yeah, 2555 all the way. You can probably use an amp you already have to blend with it for some extra flavor until you're ready to purchase another.

Cheers mate.... Fairly set on the Jub!! My love early clapton wants me to go for the blues breaker... But for the tone I'm hearing the 2555 will be the go.... I have a peavey Windsor that sort of does that half clean Marshall thing... Will probably use that with it.... Or my Line 6 Spidervalve for a blackface sound....

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Sounds like a plan Stefan. I'd love to have a pair of bluesbreakers, they just look cool! Are you looking to order from ceriatone in the near future?

Hopefully in a months time roughly..... Can't wait man!!

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

You'll then be going crazy for the 2 month or whatever it is build time waiting for it! I've seen them on eBay randomly, though the shipping to Australia might be a problem. Amps are better new anyway, always buy them new when you can. Guitars buy used.

I don't mind a guitar that's been worn in! wink

The shipping from Malaysia to Australia isn't too hefty luckily!! I will be going mad in that time!

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Exactly, thats what I'm saying: buy guitars used and amps new! Guess you're right, the shipping probably is cheaper to you than it is to the US from Malaysia. So you'll be rockin' with Dokken in no time flat!

Can't wait to finally have a decent sounding amp!!! Been trying to get a sound out of that peavey for too long!! It doesn't have a great overdrive to it... Especially when saturated... Will be an okay crunch amp...

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Yeah the shipping to Oz is great from Malaysia.  He will also take care of the 240V requirement (Malaysia is the same).  Nik is a good guy too - I've had some good email conversations with him.  Stefan - perhaps tell Nik you plan to buy 3 eventually.  He might give you a 'deal' ahead of time...

Yeah I've emailed him before... Lovely guy.. That's why I trust Ceriatone.. He's a great face for the company!! Will email him once I have adequate cash... Will probably get a reverb built into the blues breaker!!

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Hopefully the 2555 will do the trick!

Re: Need some help with an amp decision!!!

Why buy the  Ceriatone 2555 before the Ceriatone OTS?
I know Joe's anchor sound is "Jubilee = always on." But what tonal contrasts are between the  Ceriatone 2555 & Ceriatone OTS that makes the Jub clone the one to get first?

Eventually, I may go to a two head rig identical to this one... but my gigs are so small, I don't enjoy carry as much as I already have lol
