'Gladys' is by far the best looking....and I would think..sounding '59 Les Paul I've ever seen. Wowow.
think Phil rather let himself down with this slightly camp rendition..
blame the miss notes on the dude bumping into him from behind. Kind of a gay moment for Phil if you ask me. Could have gone all day without the face expression while working on that solo.
Oh my God, the harmonics at 2:58 are killer!
Just awesome!
More of an amazing '59.

that'ill be Chappers, - the shop is Andertons in Guildford, - a shop that I would deposit drool on the carpet of when I was a young lad without any money staring at the Premier drum kits, - and since having grown up they have seen quite a bit of money!
I guess Phil was on a tour promoting his Evil Robot amps, - are they any good?
The ERs are something else.
They have nailed a classic tone right there.
The PCB versions don't sound quite as good, have naturally more gain...yet have far more options and cost £1k less...so you cannot argue.
May have to have a 500mile round trip to see the Captain and try one! Andertons is the ONLY place in the uk to have them. Exclusive deal I believe.
they are a clone of the Master Tone amps he used to play. They basically are very rare amps and he had a couple of them. He told the story that he met Eddie Van Halen and Ed said he loves those amps and something like he had 100 of them... Which Phil said so thats why you can't find them anywhere EVH bought all of them! The Evil Robot name came after a law suit... Its a dead ringer to the original.

Was called the Tonemaster - an accordion amp of all things - some similar amps are the Magnatones.
They started off with the 'Tonemonster', but like you said - had to change. Evil Robot is a damn cool name.

Great comparison here - still a difference, but both amazing. It's the speaker on the Tonemaster giving it the special 'soft' quality.

Your right. I've slept since then. Either way its a killer amp 18 watts I think.
Finally!

"@TheRealPhilX Dude... It was great to hang and finally meet you as well!! Your a killer guitarist.. Lets hang this summer.."
Off to see him on Thursday...it's going to be gooooood!
Will his friend from Narnia be there with him? Great chemistry between those two guys.
Sure thing - Phil X and The Drills and Rob Chapman with Dorje...duel headlining sets...
Hope to meet the guys!
Could someone report on the Evil Robot amp? The cheaper PCB version. Phil X uses a Bad Monkey for his lead tone but has the amp enough gain to produce a nice harmonic overdrive tone? I've watched the youtube clips and would love to hear from anyone who actually played the amp.
Have you seen this one? It does tell you a lot.
Grab a bad monkey too...hey...only a few bucks...great OD.
I'm heading out to play one (buy one?) later this year...sounds good...more gain than the hand-wired for sure!

Yeah, I saw that clip before. Sounds great but I'm always a bit suspicous about such clips because they're obviously made to sell the product (which is fair enough) and I'm not sure how much the audio has been processed. That's why I'd love to hear from anyone who's played one in person. I must say, I'm very tempted, though...
Fretted Americana are superb at giving the real sounds...it has always been the same two amps (going back to the original Tonemaster and VoxAC30) and each guitar (we're talking special guitars) has always sounded phenomenal, yet different...I believe in everything those guys do...to buy those instruments, you're always having to go there to try before you buy - they are not going to mess around.
There must be examples near you?
