Jaci

Jaci,
Sufficiently Breathless was their follow up (second) album.

How about "Thick as a Brick"? Not necessarily art, but it was interesting to look at.

I mentioned it on page 2...it was definitely art!

Sorry Rocket! This thread has been going so long that I guess I need to go back and read it from the start again.
Useless trivia: I played for a park district basketball team in the early 70's that we named "Thick as a Brick". We had shirts and everything...all of us were Tull fans.
We were all 16/17 years old (gym rats) and won the championship playing against the older guys, who were in their late teens and early 20's. I think I still have that shirt somewhere.

No need to apologize when we get to reminiscing Bill...Thick As A Brick WAS a work of Art!  Resembling a newspaper and the story about the boy & the "affair", plus that dot-to-dot duck thing and the rabbit thing, what was that?! No, not the flying killer Monty Python rabbit,, it was some kind of mutant rabbit...dang wish I had the vinyl LP in hand!  Art, I tell ya!

Sounds like a great t-shirt to wear to a show Bill. Hey, you're not coming to Shank Hall tonight to see Walter Trout, are you?

Roy

Yeah, I should dig that shirt outta storage. It's gold with black trim and black script lettering.
No, unfortunately I didn't make the Shank Hall show, nor tonight's show at HOB's. I had a good excuse for missing tonight's show though Roy...I was out on the golf course!

Re: Album Cover Art... What's your favorite from the past?

I've got a few,

Ace     Bob Weir     GD art always eye catching

Kiln House     Fleetwood Mac

Back to Oakland     Tower of Power     Warner's paid Caltrans big bucks to actually place that sign on the Bay Bridge

Let It Bleed     The Stones     With the instuction on the inner sleeve....This record should be played loud.

Can't Buy A Thrill     Steeley Dan    This one speaks for itself.

Tommy     The Who     Like M.C. Escher

Buckingham Nicks     An angelic young Stevie standing just enough behind Lindsay to hide her birthday suit.

Also how many of you steamed the cover of the Beatles, was it Revolver or Yesterday Today, to reveal the original UK version of the Fab Four in butchers coats covered in blood holding meat cleavers with chopped up baby dolls strewn around. Probably the most bizarre cover of all-time. Lennon must have had something to do with that one.

                                                                                                         Think Green,

                                                                                                         J Dawg

How could I forget Big Bambu by Cheech & Chong with the very useable giant Bambu rolling paper that came inside the cover. It cost a small fortune to fill that thing, but even Bob Marley would have been impressed.

Think Green, no not that green,

Gypsy....Gypsy

This was a great album I had forgotten about until this week. Good artwork on the cover too. I looked this up on Amazon and the CD is selling for $55.00, I wonder what my original album is worth?

how weird, - without reading this I just mentioned that album on the concept thread.... spoooookyy! Maybe not!

And as we are talking favourite album artwork, - it has to be for the vinyl age when you would sit there and study the album cover whilst listening!

Not read through this thread so apologies for duplication:

Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell, - Front unique artwork and the rear with the sight of Ellen (?) with what appeared to be lack of undies required much study as a teenager!

Status Quo "On the level" - lots of small tour photos to study in the gatefold!

Lynrd Skynrd, - "One more from the road" same as above!

AC/DC - "Dirt Deeds"and the simple Powerage album.

Re: Album Cover Art... What's your favorite from the past?

I always liked Chris Squires 1975 'Fish out of Water'. I suppose the album would also for the concept album thread too!

The fishbone grill effect which Chris was photographed behind was from a hotel lobby lift in Chicago I think he said.

The distorted main inner gatefold image of Chris playing an acoustic guitar in the drive of his home always had me thinking until I got the deluxe re-issue edition of the album that had some more photos in the package.

The distorted colour image of Chris was a photo taken from a reflection in the chrome Bumper/fender of a Rover saloon that was parked in his drive. Haha - tricks of the trade huh?

PS the album is still a landmark piece of music after all these years
