Topic: Doc Watson in critical condition....

Flatpicking guitar great Doc Watson is currently in critical condition following colon surgery.  Let's hope he can recover, but right now it doesn't look good.

Although not a bluegrass musician per se, it has been a rough year so far for bluegrass fans like myself...Earl Scruggs and Doug Dillard have passed away, and J.D. Crowe announced his retirement.

I know Joe had Doc on his "Top 100" guitar players list.

Re: Doc Watson in critical condition....

Doc has always been a favorite of mine.  I met him once at the Gault House in Louisville, Kentucky with another legend Mark O'Conner.  Very cool.  Doc's singing is like smelling honeysuckle - very pleasant.  I'll pray he comes through the surgery.

Re: Doc Watson in critical condition....

Doc is to Bluegrass guitar what Bill Monroe was to Bluegrass Mandolin. Get well Doc, Hopin' & prayin'.

Re: Doc Watson in critical condition....

I'm from North Carolina and have seen him at Merle Fest many times.  I'm sure if Doc could give us a message though it would be something like this, "Don't worry about me I've had a good life so far, I'll be fine either way."

Re: Doc Watson in critical condition....

Family has been called to his bedside.

Re: Doc Watson in critical condition....

Doc had a bad Sunday, but has improved today.  The situation is still serious, but looking better.

Re: Doc Watson in critical condition....

RIP Doc, his guitar pickin' was second to none. He will be missed.

Re: Doc Watson in critical condition....

Doc's pickin' on the front porch this morning with his son Merle.  They're playing "St Louis Blues" or maybe "Shady Grove" and the sky's as beautiful as the air is fresh in those Carolina mountains.

I wouldn't be surprised if Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe were sittin' in, too.

Sad day for the music world.  Doc was a great musician and even better human being.  He will be missed.
