Re: John Peel's Record Collection

Grew up listening to this great man. He was responsible for lots of new acts to mainstream radio.  Where did that go.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: John Peel's Record Collection

John Peel was a unique and rightly legendary institution in the fostering and development of unknown artists in the UK. He meant as much to me as to anyone else of our older generation, but in all honesty, he also played an awful lot of horrible sh!te on his show, especially during 'punk'. wink

RIP Iron Man

Incredible collection.  Makes me feel very inferior.

I'm totally with you on the punk. Also earlier he sometimes went a bit too big on Captain Beefheart also.

Re: John Peel's Record Collection

John was someone who, not only loved, but embraced all genre's of music, and should be applauded for that alone. He was a champion of putting artists on air, who wouldn't otherwise be heard.
If he were alive today, no doubt JP would be playing Joe's music and spreading the word.

One night, in early 70's, listening to the John Peel Show, he played a little known band at the time, called Wishbone Ash - been a fan ever since. - Thank you John Peel

ps: JP was also a massive Liverpool FC fan - But i forgive him for that! tongue

No such thing as "too big" when it comes to Captain Beefheart! wink

Have to agree with Kestrou! The Captain was/is one of my all-time favorites.

Not that anyone owes you an explanation, Brack, but you probably missed the link to "medical websites' in that person's signature! roll

And of course, you would not have known that they were posting from one of Asia's spam centers. Satisfied?

Same with me Brack. First time I heard Free was on his show plus Wishbone Ash.
