Topic: The Real Secret to the JB Live tone

Well I cracked the code.  They say it's in the hands... they say the gear helps... but watching the ANDY DVD, I realized that the secret to grail tone is to have a hot blonde and a hot brunette grooving to your tunes on either side of the stage.  Now I just want to know why JB stopped sharing them with us wink they must be back behind the amps... OF COURSE! That's why he needs such a big wall of amps behind him!  tongue

Oh yes the hot girls dvd.  I think he was playing in vagas or something like that and that was the playboy club he was jamming at.

He recorded that at Piere's Entertainment Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 2001. Sort of like Vegas, but completely different...

all joking aside, that video is interesting.  it is my first time watching it, and you see two SJ Marshalls and the Line 6.  JB plays one LP to open the show (so far) and his tone really is a lot more gainy than it is now.  Of course it is always a joy to see him go nuts on a strat.  I do think his current LP tone is more harmonically interesting but there is some magic about single coils.  Anyhow, no criticism., only mad props as his playing, tone, and singing are top notch on the DVD.

That was a Gold top 1960 classic Les Paul with the 500T pickups from Gibson.  Funny even then he was a gold top guy.

That was the Red Wine 2000 Les Paul Classic. He played that until he sold it to buy his first Murphy aged Custom Shop.

Jim is right, it was the wine red guitar.  The interesting thing about it is that they were uncovered pickups.  have not seen JB play one before this (of course i too could be mistaken).

It just goes to show that you don't need to go Custom Shop to have killer tone. The LP Classic and Blackie Strat are proof of that.

It was a wine red Les Paul Classic 1960.  The standard pickups on a LP Classic 1960 model has uncovered pickups. Slightly slimmer neck than his Custom Shop model but they still sound and play great

He later replaced the neck with a PAF.
