Re: Why I live where I do!

Hey Jane.....if you learn to fly fish and always release your catch, you'll never have to worry about boundaries or sections again. Plus, fly fishermen don't crowd anybody. It just isn't done. (last line said in haughty tone with nose in air!)

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Take a deep breath, Scott.  George (Geko) is a German fan.  He has no agenda.  Doesn't have much English either.  I'm almost positive that the "creepy guy" was about the motor city madman, who is a polarizing figure at best.  I would just take it as an aside (because I've corresponded with Geko over the last few years) that he's not a gut pile junkie.  That's all.  He is just a regular guy like any of us.  He wouldn't try to hijack a thread and was probably surprised by your response.  Don't go anywhere, just yet.

I got the CDs; will listen today.  Thank you!

I agree that it is a lovely thread and I'm enjoying the nature talk.  My son just returned from a cliff climb in Tenn.  2 guys, 5 girls camping in the mountains.  My wife just returned from hiking the Appalachian Trail through Va. I hate 'em, lol  Being the tropical guy I am, I always gravitated to the sea and the islands...so fishing and scuba/snorkel for me.  HOWEVER...

the first time I hit high country, either coast, it was cold and I was stunned by the beauty & the solitude...fell in love again.

I'm convinced, that when I make 2-3 $, the ideal scenario is a penthouse in the city, a cabin in the mountains, and a tree house in the islands.  Dream on right?

Let it go my friend.  Curby is my friend, too.  It is a simple misunderstanding.  I am sorry for hurt feelings for everybody.  Do you go to the forest for walks?  We are talking about the beauty of nature...the great outdoors.  wink

Hey Curby. Coronado Beach was voted the best in the US last week in the annual competition. I know you had enjoyable times there. Had a walk this morning on my beach, took the spinning rod down and had fun catching and releasing a bunch of small surf perch on plastic grubs.

Back when I used to live in the Bay area, my buddy and I used to head over to the Half Moon Bay area all the time with our surf rods. We'd start a bonfire early in the morning and spend the rest of the day catching fish of one sort or another. The coast is a special place first thing in the morning with the salt air, mists/fog and solitude. Forgot how much I enjoyed those times till you reminded me Rick. Thanks.

Since I know your love of the fly gear, there are quite a few fly casters that show up and work the pockets in the surf. A local has come up with a fly that is a sand crab pattern with a bit of orange to imitate one with eggs, which are favored by the perch and occasional elusive and wary corvina, there are plenty but it is very hard to coax a bite. It is nice early with only a few shore joggers and surfers to watch. It is amazing that the perch are not put off by crowds of bathers. I've caught them one after another right in the middle of hundreds of people out in the water. The theory is that the waders stir up the sand crabs and the fish come in to feed. Not the same as stalking trout along streams in the sierra, but time on the water with a rod in hand is all good, and it is a 5 minute walk. big_smile

No apology  necessary, I'm over myself and shouldn't have reacted like I did.

Re: Why I live where I do!

Glad to see you back Curby! If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have discovered many of the new artists that now populate my I-pod.

I leave foe Alaska again in 12 days so I'll have more fishing/scenery pics and (hopefully!) a couple of stories when I get back. I'm going to place called Elfin Cove which is up by Juneau on the coast. No fly-fishing on this trip however. We're going after salmon and halibut offshore. I'm told to expect to bring back approx. 100 lbs. of fish. There'll be some grilling' at my place later! Y'all are welcome to come of course!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Why I live where I do!

I live in Oklahoma because my Great Grandfather settled here shortly after the land run. My Grandfather moved to Oklahoma City in 1926 and met my Grandmother. My father came to Oklahoma from Mississippi after the Korean war to go to school. Met my mother and thus I was born here. I was Sooner born and Sooner bread and when I die I'll be Sooner dead.

Lived no other place and I'm not that adventurous. The City has grown but it is not too big with very little traffic. We have just enough snow to have fun with it but not get sick of it. Just enough hot weather to appreciate the mild falls. Used to hunt with plenty of open land statewide so never a problem finding a spot. Many man made lakes and wooded hills so a varied terrain with the great plains out west. Since I prefer trout fishing I don't fish around here although we do have some stocked streams in the winter.

We now have a NBA team, Sorry Stu, to give us something to cheer besides the Sooners the closest thing to a pro team we had for many years. Not planning on moving anytime soon. Both sons live here and grandsons.
