Re: What was your 1st good guitar

I posted a while back and have been looking for a picture of one everywhere. I have just found a photo from one that is for sale, mine was in far better condition. So my first electric was this. The Edmond/ Rossetti Airstream http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/v … -249144052

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: What was your 1st good guitar

A used Japanese copy of a Fender Jazz bass. Was back in 1975 or 76. Tobacco sunburst finish that came with black nylon wrapped flat wound strings. Didn't really appreciate just how solid a rig it was until many years and many different basses later.

1st and only (though I dont know if it qualifies as "good"), Epi Les Paul Special II.  Unfortunately it IS hard to teach an old dog new tricks, at least using online teaching tools. I made no progress for a few months, got busy at work and put it away. One of these days and with at least a few live lessons I'll try again.....unless I come up with some real money and buy a synth. At least Ive got some experience with keyboards.

Re: What was your 1st good guitar

I had some cheap 6-strings, and then decided to play bass so then I had some cheap 4-strings...

First good one was a slightly beat up Fender Jazz - played like butter, but I wasn't digging the tobacco sunburst and all my heroes (Geddy Lee, Chrs Squire, etc.) were playing Rickenbacker 4001's. So I traded in the Jazz and some cash for a used Rick and just hated it!  Only had that Rick for maybe a month or do and tried to get my Jazz back, but it was gone..

Ended up with a Peavey T-40 - funny because a couple here have mentioned the T-60.

Re: What was your 1st good guitar

Just looked through here again to see if anybody started with an Airline or maybe purchased a Silvertone through Sears & Roebuck. When I was in Jr. High a few friends had each of these guitars and I played them both, but when I'd pick up a Fender it was like goin' out with the most popular girl in school. In the '60's in Cali., Fender guitars were the bomb! Actually, before I bought my Lyle my folks bought me an acoustic to take lessons on. I think it was an Alvarez steel string with horrendous action and frets that would make your fingers bleed, but I was 12 and it was '65 and I was bound and determined to learn to play.

Re: What was your 1st good guitar

I was playing violin and about the summer of 65, my brother brought home with him, from college, a Hofner Beatle bass.  Twasn't much bigger than that darn violin and my fate was sealed.  But it wasn't mine.

First of mine was a late 60s Fender Mustang Bass...3/4 bass, huge sound.  Jesu, I loved that bass.  I was maybe 19 then.  Well that went out a 4th floor window in the hood, because of a jealous female.  It was ugly.  I was furious for about 3 days, then I just cried.

Bought a Fender acoustic (6 string) that was very hard to play and didn't last me very long.  Pretty though.  Accumulated lots of equipment for awhile and then lost it all when I bottomed out.  It was for the best.

Now I have a 74 Jazz bass, that is just an incredible instrument.  I rarely take it to gig or jam anymore.  I'm scared to lose it.  For gigging or jamming I bought a POS Rogue 5 string (didn't have a 5 string) and tore it apart.  Then I rebuilt it with tighter tolerances and good strings and I put Bartolini pups in it...

It goes BOOM. It goes POP.  Me likey.  Musicos sneer till I plug it in...say WHAT!?
