On the contrary Geko they have existed forever. When camping as Rick mentioned you have to be extrememly aware of your surroundings and how you store your food supplies or you're chances are very good of meeting a bear. Mountain lions can be a hazard as well. Not just in the high country either. Guido may recall a woman jogger not far from his neighborhood being mauled to death by a cat on a trail @ Folsom Lake, a heavily populated suburban area. The animals as far as I know aren't in it for sport though......or are they?????

A famous family story from one of my first ever remembered ventures to the Eastern Sierra. A bear was rummaging through our camp outside the tent in the wee hours of the morning and had found the skillet with grease in it by the firepit and was happily licking away and making a bit of noise. Mom woke my dad, "Jimmy, Jimmy, wake up, there's a bear in the food!" Dad rolled over and laconically asked, "What do you want me to do, wrestle it?" Our foodstock was high in a tree hanging by a rope as needed there. Eastern Yosemite, Tuolumne Meadows, ca. 1953.

Hold on there dude!!
You know nothing about me or my values. As it happens, I release 98% of ALL the fish I catch. I don't expect everyone to understand my hobby and I'm too old to start explaining it.

Just below Englebright dam.
Spent many afternoons in the South Fork outside Nevada City where a few friends live. Always keepin' an eye out for that stray gold nuggett.

Just don't hurt it!
I'm watching Bizarre Foods America and Andrew is visiting West Virginia. Andrew struggled to get into a life vest to go river rafting and exclaimed, "I've been eating too much critter lately." His guide replied, "I'm a PETA member, People Eating Tasty Animals!" LOL!!!

Had to pass on an invite to head up to Graegle for the weekend, I hate when work gets in the way!!! I'm gonna miss out on trout n eggs for breakfast, the standard fare when I've been up there before. It's Memorial weekend and Fish & Game will be stockin' a lot of streams n rivers like the Truckee River @ Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City.

How do you feel about Ted Nugent?

Guido, sorry I asked where you were fishin' and diverted your topic about the splendors of the high Sierras. Being Memorial weekend I got to thinkin' about how many I've spent in the Sierras, Pine Mtn. Lake/Yosemite, Graegle, Lake Tahoe, Nevada City, & Pinecrest/Twain Harte. Chance of rain & snow tomorrow @ certain elevations, think I'll wait till things warm a little more.

Yeah, I'm into eating tasty animals as well. Maybe it should be "why I do what I do where I live". I can see releasing trout because you can pretty much catch one after the other, they aren't too picky I'm told. I would definitely release some, but keep a few fat ones (within reason) for the frying pan and then also the smoker. Applewood smoked trout that you do yourself has got to be amazing. But down here it's bass and catfish country. I don't like the taste of bass, however they are so elusive that if I catch a big one he is going to have to die just so I can show him off to everybody. He might even end up on the wall.

Ahhh...thanks for the memories!
