Topic: Advice on Buying/Selling

A bit of advice if buying or selling online.

1. Do NOT use bank to bank transfers, wire transfers or the "Gift" option in PayPal. Buyers will lose protection if you do.

2. Sellers should to ship all items fully insured and with a tracking number. If issues come up with a buyer and you don't have a tracking number or the item isn't insured, you are opening yourself to potential trouble.

3. Take a screenshot of the ad that describes what you are buying or selling. The seller may delete the ad once the item is sold. Keep copies of all correspondence, records and proof of your agreement and a copy of the full description of the item.

4. Get to know who you are buying from. Make sure to talk on the phone if possible before agreeing to a purchase unless you already know the other person. If you have a "bad feeling" about a transaction, go with your gut feeling. Always ask for detailed photos of the item.

5. Keep in contact with the buyer or seller. Buyer or seller anxiety caused by lack of communication after a deal is entered into can easily be remedied by good open communications.

6. Please remember that this is only a method for forum members to help each other. It is YOUR responsibility to safeguard yourself from problems.

Of course. I hope everyone does. And we tend to think all is safe and all is well in the world too. Unfortunately reality is some what different. I posted this just because. Because sometimes all that glitters is not gold and I want people to look before they leap. Because.

Yes my cliche fest is over with.

The screen shot is a good idea, never thought of that. I don't buy off eBay though, maybe once in a very great while. Personally, I just don't trust it even with something thats 20 dollars. Business' that sell on there and Amazon I feel better about as opposed to a private seller regardless of their feedback quota.

Buy the seller not the item (guitar, watch, litho, etc.).
