Topic: DSL50 or DSL 100

Hi guys
I have an origional SLP100 from 1970 and she still sounds good. Problem is no effects loop to put my
delay and reverb in.
I am thinking of diving into the DSL arena and there is a 50 watter for sale locally.

Question is what is the difference appart from the clean headroom?
Or, anyone ever add a buffer and loop to an old Marshall?

THanks

Re: DSL50 or DSL 100

Unless you're playing big gigs I'd easily go with the 50w, clean headroom is fine with it and will be able to drive it harder at better volumes.

Re: DSL50 or DSL 100

Hey, I was in the same boat a few years back when I bought one. I got the 100 watt version, partially because it was brand new for 700 bucks from a guy on craigslist, and also because it spits out phenomenal tone at low volumes too. It still sounds like a big amp even quieter. If I came across a 50 watt head, I'd buy it if I was really wanting one but honestly I'd hold out for the 100 watt big boy. You get more amp for not much more money for the most part.

Re: DSL50 or DSL 100

I also went with the 100w. I'm just a stay at home player but I agree that it sounds great even at low volumes. If you look around at used the price is same for 50 or 100w. Theres a little more circuitry in the 100 because of the two more power tubes so more things to go wrong. Also retubing will be more but as I said I'm very happy with my DSL 100.

You could have a tech add a loop to your Super Lead but....don't do it. Especially if it's in good shape, it's just not worth messing with an original amp.

You could look at using an Xotic X-Blender to run your delay and reverb in front of the amp.

A pretty cool solution and they can be found for $180 or so.
Something to think about.

Re: DSL50 or DSL 100

I've seen both amps on Ebay lately and to be honest I think I would go with the 100 watt amp because their going for about the same price.  I'd look for a combo personally if I was going for 50 watts but I think their combo is 60 watts and use EL84 instead of the EL34.
