Topic: Help on serial number for historic R7

Hey folks,

Tested an incredibly great R7 today. The Serial number was R7 1486, but the online serial detector has no info...
Guy in the shop said it's a 2001 R7, still brandnew.

Guitar seemed absolutely legit.

What about the serial, why don't I find an info online???

Can anyone help and stop me from panicking?

Thanks...

Re: Help on serial number for historic R7

Jimi,

Does it actually have the letter R in the serial number?

2009 Gibson Les Paul 1958 VOS (with black plastic)
2008 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Goldtop (with the cream plastic from the 58RI)
> Marshall Bluesbreaker 2 pedal >Boss sd-1> DD3 > Vox Ac15cc1

Re: Help on serial number for historic R7

If I remember correctly, yes. But I was so excited, could be without the R, too...

Re: Help on serial number for historic R7

It's either a 2001 or a 2011. Gibson did issue COA's in 2001 so hopefully the seller has it. A quick way to tell at a glance is the fret markers on a 2001 have more rounded corners where 2011 will be sharp.

Yes correct...

p/s I think the "R" is a newer numbering..so It might be a 2011.....I don't think the older ones had a R in front of the 7

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Help on serial number for historic R7

I've never seen a Historic with an R in the serial number. Call Gibson Custom.

Re: Help on serial number for historic R7

It won't have an R if it's real. You are probably mistaken about that. As spider said check the inlays to see if the corners are pointed of roundish.  If you remove the control plate and the soldering all looks original check to see if the caps are bee's. That would make it 2011.

Re: Help on serial number for historic R7

Easy to tell if it's a 2001.
2001 will have tuners in a strait rows, the newer ones are arranged to follow the shape of the headstock in a V pattern.
The finish will be gloss on a 2001 not VOS. (i.e not buffed worn looking)
hardware will be shiney on 2001 (duller on 2011)
The pickups on a 2001 will be 57 classics. BBs on 11.
The capacitors will be tiny ceramics on 2001, Bumblebee replicas on 2011.
The plastic jack socket surround will be thick on a 2001.
The neck on a 2001 is likely to be fatter with more shoulders.

I own a 2001 R7 & R8..I Love that year for reissues. Great Guitars.

.
And if they are flametop reissues...the tops will be much more intense and flamey than the 2011's.....seems the tops today are duds for the most part.
