On the night he blew Gary off the stage, most who were there would agree. Buddy was into pleasing the crowd and enjoying it. Gary was not.

Buddy is awesome and a real nice guy too. He blew Gary Moore off the stage when he supported him at Wolverhampton, UK. His CD is well worth getting, great song writer.

Re: Buddy Whittington

Some news on Buddy. He's currently part way though a UK tour.
Forthcoming dates include:

3 Nov 2010 20:00
Robin II Bilston, Midlands, UNITED KINGDOM
4 Nov 2010 20:00
Caves Edinburgh, UNITED KINGDOM
5 Nov 2010 21:00
The Inn at Lathones St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UNITED KINGDOM
6 Nov 2010 20:00
Reeth Memorial Hall Reeth, Yorks, UNITED KINGDOM
11 Nov 2010 20:00
The Beaverwood Club Chislehurst, Kent,

Buddy's now represented in the UK by ARM who look after Aynsley Lister and King King and he's just released a superb live album 'Bag of Blues' which I've been listening to a lot over the last week or so. I'd always liked Buddy, but the new release has taken him to a higher level in my estimations.
Here's a sublime slow blues number by Leon Russell (filmed by Tripsy) that's on the new album.

I'll see him on 5th Nov! smile

Re: Buddy Whittington

Well then - Sedgefield Rock'n'Blues Club's last gig of the year and their first 2-Night stand; and what a way to go. Heard from friends that Friday night went well and it was a great night Saturday.

Young Laurence Jones started the evening, and if he had any nerves, they didn't show. He and his band gave a solid set based round the Thunder In The Sky album and were called back to a welcome encore.

However the main man just gave a seemingly effortless performance of tracks cherry-picked from a rich back-catalogue that most players can only dream of. Self-penned mixed with great covers from BB King and Freddie King as well as Buddy's tenure with John Mayall. The first 50 minute set closed with Buddy generously inviting Laurence back on stage for a super 10 minute jam.

Set 2, and Buddy seemed to kick it another gear and ploughed through a catalogue of seemingly favourite numbers, starting with Jacksboro Highway and a melting cover of ZZ Top's Sure Got Cold After The Rain. Picking up the tempo got a good number of the crowd up and dancing and another hour just seemed to disappear too quickly. Had to get Buddy back for an encore and he delivered a barrage of an instrumental medley that started with Hideaway and finished with God Save The Queen.

Nights don't get much better that this, and watch out next year, chatting with the man after the show, he's got a projetc lined-up with Jim Suhler.
