Ok, I'm going to post another one of my 12 year old son Jordan.
Back story: He came into my home office today and asked whether he could plug into my amp and pedalboard to play on his home built FrankenStrat (which he, his brother and I built together last month).
I said "Sure", and as he started, I got out my iPhone camera and secretly filmed most of it. He doesn't know he is being filmed here. I apologise for the sound clipping out like it is, but he was playing LOUD, and the iPhone mic does not handle that well...

Hi folks, I don't post here that much these days, but just wanted to say that I think it was a really good idea to set up this sticky thread. It gives young players the way to showcase their talent, and keeps other artists separate for those established acts that many of us take an interest in. Keep them coming, girls and guys. My friend Eilidh McKellar has played with Joe twice after he saw her videos, so you never know!

Thanks for all the comments .... here is just an idea that popped into my head an hour or so ago and I just started recording it ... super short but it's just the intro and it's just the sort of thing I'd produce more of if I had the chance to make a record one day

Here's something else....I'm not happy that it sounds really too modern ... i was originally trying to go for the blues deluxe album type of riff but my mixing is poor

I haven't posted my musical background on here yet but since I want to share these two compositions I may as well.
I started playing piano when I was about 9/10, learned extremely quickly. Within a few months, I had Fur Elise nailed. According to my parents I had a natural ear for music. I took keyboard lessons for a year then quit because of the slow pace. I also took piano lessons for a month or so but found them boring so quit. At this point in my life I hated most music apart from classical pieces.
Anyway, when I was about 13/14 I lost interest. My parents took me to see on Oasis concert and whilst I didn't really enjoy it, it changed my perception of music. I wanted to become a guitarist from then on. Got my Dad to show me a few chords on the guitar. I remember the first song he ever showed me, the first two chords of Morning Glory. He then retreated to the toilet for about half an hour, I got bored so worked the next few chords out!
Fast forward 3 years and here I am. 17 next month, and with an interest in almost every genre of music. Jazz, metal, classical, ska, punk, country, reggae, rock, blues, even some folk but that may be my Irish roots kicking in...
Anyway, I can still read (and write!) music and do tons of composing. My preference is to come up with a riff on the guitar or piano, put it in to a program called Guitar Pro then try and make a song out of it. Most of the stuff I have are just ideas that will probably never be used. Some are great and could be, but I'm never motivated to finish most of them. I usually compose very early in the morning, think 3/4 O'clock! I'll start listening to music around midnight, get inspired, then spend the rest of the night composing. Bloody typical.
One of my favourite ways to compose is to have a little "film scene" in my head. Whether that's a cavalry charge (I'm a sad history nerd) or a happy scene I find it really helps. Here are two pieces that I composed with them exact scenes in mind... see if you can figure out which is which!
They are MIDI by the way, but quite nice sounding nonetheless.

That one sounds a little Satriani'ish too, still awesome! I could definitely hear that in the background of a commercial or something. Very melodic. We all steel licks, and sometimes guitar faces/moves but hopefully you'll turn out to keep sounding like you. Its good you're recording yourself so you can hear it back. When I hear myself on a recording, usually (to me) my playing sounds better than I think it did when I was actually playing. Builds your confidence, which is cool. You just get so used to only hearing yourself through your amps in real time. -S

Yeah I know what you mean! But I just listened to this back again and the solo part and the main riff part really don't go together ... ah well only my first day attempting to write anything original! Rick B gave me some great advice also. The tone, mood, drums make the first half sound like a techno track or something even though it's a rock riff....I need to have a think...

Thank you Devan for listening and commenting. I'm very happy you like them! The first one is my favourite too, it was actually two separate pieces at the start and as I was finishing up the first section I felt it needed a release of tension. The second part was just a nice little piano part that I really enjoyed playing. Truth be told it's just an arpeggio of the chords! Anyway, I added it to the end, put a nice contrabass line to it and it seemed to really work. Very proud of it!
I'm very glad that the second piece reminds you of Gaelic or Medieval music. Another person commented saying it reminds him of a Celtic melody. Yep, that's intentional. I have Celtic and Irish roots (might be why I'm so damn hairy actually) so it was easy for me to remember the happy Irish melodies I remember hearing at the pub when I was very young. I wanted to experiment with this piece, it's composed in 3/4 and in the key of Bb Mixolydian. I don't think that's a very common combination, but I've always liked the sound of the Mixolydian mode and though it would be interesting to compose in it. It resolves to C#m during the bridge section. Not entirely sure how I figured out how to make it work but it seemed to! I haven't got the transition completely seamless yet so I will be working on that soon.
And again, thanks for listening to the RHCP cover. This song was recorded for a project at college with me mates and I've used it in many other projects since then. It's the first quality recording we've done.

If you don't mind my opinion I'll say this much: I have little experience with the Haze although I did play the combo at Guitar Center about 2 years ago and it seemed fine to me. I was looking to buy a guitar really, so I wasn't super focussed on the amp but I honestly did like it. As far as the HT-5, I played my friends through the matching 1x12 cabinet for a while here at my house using a LP. It sounded good however it seemed to only get a super thick tone no matter what EQ settings. They had little impact in my opinion, wasn't overly impressed with it for a bluesy tone.. Hard Rock and Metal, it was perfect. I did also run a regular ibanez ts808 in front of it with the pedals gain dialed back as well as the amp's gain. That smoothed it out but out of the 2, I would buy the Haze. Regardless of the onboard effects, which are cool, I liked the sound of it much better and I wasn't even really looking much into the amp.
I've read some mixed reviews on the Haze, and can't understand the negative responses. Its not a bad amp? I honestly never have too much trouble getting a decent tone out of an amp, even a cheap solid state. I'm certainly not in the pro leagues when it comes to skill level, but when people basically have nothing good to say about an amp that costs several hundred dollars, (which is obviously not a beginner's toy in that price range) I tend to believe either they are too narrow minded or not very good players. I did see a guy playing out about 2 months ago using a Haze combo, and it sounded not so good..but guess what? Neither was he, so I attribute the amp's poor performance to him alone. It sounded fine when I played one. I'd say buy the Haze combo. -S
