Think it applies to the Tevez affair-when he scored ALL their goals-they stayed up,we didn't.Warnock was like a terrier over that one....;)

Re: The Football Topic

Just stumbled on this thread - think The Seasiders need represenation on here, at least for the next week anyway.  Seems like I'm outnumbered by "Hammers" though !  WHU are definitely strong favourites - Sam's out thought Ollie in both games this season.  Never know though, we're on a decent run ourselves and haven't lost any of our last 11 play off games (last time Sam was our manager actually) !!  Looking forward to the 19th - UTMP !!!

Re: The Football Topic

- not sure who I want to see in the premiership more, - Holloway or Big Sam, - both great characters. Guess I have to favour the Hammers as it was the place of birth for my Grandfather...Sorry Trevj.

However the important match for me is Chelsea NOT winning CL, - what a tragedy it would be if they took the place of the 4th placed premiership finisher.

Nearly two and a half years on the forum and you've only just discovered the footy thread? Haven't been paying attention then, have you? wink

Welcome Seasider! Ok, I've done my friendly bit, from now on we're enemies till after the playoff final. tongue

And Brack, two things - give over with the juvenile dig at me about Catalan football (since I'm the most vociferous Barca fan here) just because you follow Real because of prancing boy. Nobody in Catalonia gives a toss about Atletico winning the EL. They would almost certainly have had a preference for the Basque team, but "bad for Catalonia" is just laughable. Trust me, they really don't care. I know this not only because I post on a footy forum with actual Spaniards and Catalans, but also because I am not blinded by bias.

Secondly, suggesting that supporting Chavski over Bayern should be a "no-brainer" for English fans for purely chauvinistic reasons, shows just how little you care for the game as it should be run and played. Bayern is the antithesis of the Chavs in every respect, a well-run club with no debt that sets out to play attractive, attacking football, and I can assure you that the vast majority of all non-Chav fans in the UK will be supporting Bayern. As will all of the rest of Europe.

ENG v GER  It's a no-brainer!

not a chance, even though my son is a Chelsea fan, as are at least half of the kids in my footie team, - and I live in a Chelsea infested town, - Crawley's JJB sports sell more Chelsea replica kit than any other store in the UK!! - I have no respect for what Abramovich has done to not just good managers but also the game....And then there is Terry, - yes sure JT everybody always gets it wrong and you, you really are a nice guy... Even the school he went to do not publicise that he went there because he was such a nasty piece of work. - and what about the songs that they sing about the Munich air disaster? - Sorry too many links to right wing for me.

In 2010 I went to Stamford Bridge for a CL game as I was doing some filming for Brasilian TV, - met Alex and Ramiris, - nice guys, - but the atmosphere inside that stadium was so negative, - perhaps it was the arrogance of it only being a CL league game, but the next night I went to see Spurs play FC Twente at WHL, - the contrast in atmosphere was enormous and I can honestly say that it was not because of my allegiance, - the Brasilian guy I was with also noticed it, - all you hear from Chelsea crowd are songs slagging others off, - whilst the Spurs crowd were singing about happy positive things and laughing at themselves, well except one song - "Ledley, Ledley he's only got one knee, but he's better than John Terieeeeeee" smile

And Ribery and Robben are 2 of the best players around.

Brack, George, - I think you guys need to have a conversation, - the printed word is so difficult to interpret correctly, - not entirely sure what it is, but seriously guys life is too short and whatever it is I am sure that there are more serious things.

Re: The Football Topic

Hi Amsterhammer - Just not dipped my toes in the off topic section before - I consider myself chastised !!   Whilst remaining best of enemies for the next week, must agree with you about Bayern / Chelski.  Most footie fans I know want Bayern to win that one.  I really don't think the old England  / Germany arguement holds up that strongly at club level.

Re: The Football Topic

It will be an interesting final in Munich if....................Chelsea get the first goal.

Bayern can sometimes be susceptible to it and then hold tight for a Munich team camped in the Chelsea half. Personally, I can only see one result and it has to be Bayern, but stranger things have happened. I'm going to go with 3-0 to Bayern, but we'll see.

WHU and Blackpool, anything can happen now. I'm not going to be like the media and say, well WH should win. It is a one off game now and what happened thru the season has no more relevance.

Just watched live Berlin play in THEIR relegation play off first leg against B-Liga 2 Düsseldorf. Berlin outplayed D-dorf in the first half and led 1-0 deservedly at half time. 2nd half D-dorf stepped up their workrate, clamped down on Berlin, got a goal and then Berlin folded like a pack of cards losing 1-2 at home. Disasterous.

I just hope the players turn up on the day with the mindset to finish what they started this season. West Ham to win 2-1 but I won't be putting my house on it.................

Being from up here, I'm with you this week. Sorry Amsterhammer but history is history, even if it means supporting the wrong colour rose. You know I'm not being really serious now. Don't you big_smile

I wouldn't expect anything else from someone from oop north. wink I have absolutely nothing whatsoever against Blackpool and have always been partial to that nutter, Holloway, as well as that pretty orange/tangerine colour they play in. If they were playing anyone else I'd be for Blackpool. But, this is different.....

I tried mate, years ago....just not possible because he won't listen to any kind of reason. Let's leave it at that.

You and me both mate! I hope and kind of expect us to win, but I can't say that I'm enormously confident. Fingers crossed that BFS doesn't decide to play 4-5-1 in what is, in effect, a cup final - and, as I've mentioned before, in what is the richest single game in world football.

Re: The Football Topic

One Spanish paper reporting that Barca are willing to pay Spurs 40m for Bale, and have offered him an annual wage of 5m net! roll

Another Spanish paper reports that the banks are not willing to give Barca any more credit to buy players! big_smile

Bale would be the perfect left back for Barca, but these amounts are outrageous, imo.

Re: The Football Topic

Tickets bought - it's gonna be a long week ahead now.  I'd say WH to win 3-1.   Obviously hope not but expecting a long unhappy drive home - just have to console myself with the thought of a new cd dropping through the door a few days later big_smile

Good luck to the Blades tonight btw - Matt Phillips' time there earlier in the season helped out both sides - a few goals for you and a much more confident player for us when he came back.

Thanks, would love to be confident but I have been a follower too long, used to the ups and downs of divisions. Our recent form in the play-off's is lamentable. Life is too short for football to be too important. big_smile
