Topic: Just a got a Dumble Clone...(need setting suggestions)

I just bought a Dumble clone...It's called a Marsh Overtone Special or something like that...

Basically a copy of an overdrive special but at about 1/40th the price.

I was wondering if anybody had good EQ setting suggestions for blending it with a Marshall (ala Joe Bonamassa).

Thanks!

Re: Just a got a Dumble Clone...(need setting suggestions)

adjust to where it sounds good to you.  there is no magic in this.  it is just knobs.  need more bass? add bass.  need less treble, dial that back.

Amp: Firebird Musical Amplifiers
Guitars:62 LP SG , 02 FB VII, JB FB I, 76 Electra Omega, 64 Firebird V, 73 LPC, 61 Custom Tele, 59 and 60 Melody Maker
Effects: Mythos Chupacabra, Strymon Deco/Flint

Congrats! These amps are very versatile so you should be able the get some great sounds.
Start with all knobs at noon (right in the middle) and adjust from there. Owh, all except the master smile
I play around with the bright and deep switches and mainly use the rock setting.

Re: Just a got a Dumble Clone...(need setting suggestions)

depends how you go.

I like to start with everything on 5 or 6 across the amp, and try to do the same on the guitar vol/tone... adjust to taste. cool I usually adjust bass mid treb presence in that order. If your tone on the guitar is at 5, you can make the amp a little darker so when you go up on tone, you get a kick. Or if you you dial your amp in bright and your guitar tones are on 10, you can roll back if you don't want it to be so edgy. LOTS to play with!

Hi I will respond with the setup I use on my Carol Ann JB100 and Twinkleland that I mix with my Jubilee tonight. Congrats on your find. In general I would follow nick's advise

Hi JBFan1
Here is what I use as most have said at the end of the day you need to tune things in what works for you. But keep in mind when you  set up the amps the end goal is to blend them with the Jubliee. I would not use these settings if i were to use the heads separately. It is about blending the mids and the low and highs from each head to gain an overall tone. Keep that in mind as you fine tune each independently. Each may not sound good to your ear on their own. Anyway hear is what I use, also I use attunuators so I can keep the roof on my house. I also use Palmer units most of the time and feed directly into my recording rig.

Twinkleland
Preamp: Vol>5 Bright set down, Deep up, Rock/Jazz>Rock, Treble>10, Middle>6, Bass 4.5
Overdrive: Level>6, Vol>7
Poweramp: Master>7, Presence>4
I also use a Twinklator

Category 5 JB Jubilee( I use this most of the time instead of my Marshall Jub)
Presence>2
Bass>10
Middle>5
Treble>2
Output Master> 7
Lead master>5-6
Input Gain> 5-6

Category 5 JB 68
Presence>2
Bass>2
Treble> 5-6
Vol I> 5-7
Vol II > 6

Carol Ann JB 100 (S/N 001)
PREAMP>6-7
CH A: TREBLE>5, MIDDLE>6, BASS>6
CHB: GAIN>5, FILTER>5-6
MASTER: CHA> 7, CHB 7
PRESENCE 5

The settings depends on many things, my mood or if I am recording directly into protools via palmer.
Well like I said at the end of the day it is what you like. I hope this helps.
Cheers Ron
