Re: Wacky Events at Concerts - What's Yours?

Another event came to mind which occurred Nov. 20, 1973. My best friend and I went to the Cow Palace in SF to see The Who play in support of their new album Quadrophenia. About 4 or 5 songs into their set Keith Moon passed out and right off his drum stool. They revived him a few minutes later and he tried again and lasted about 10 seconds. He was rushed off to the hospital to have his stomach pumped clean of the PCP he ingested. So Pete Townshend asked if there was anybody in the audience who could sit in and play drums, remarking, "mind you, you've got to be F****n' good." Some people near the front of the stage tossed their friend up and he jammed on 3 or 4 songs with his favorite band. I felt a little slighted, but the night wasn't a complete loss as the opening band, who we had never heard of was Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Re: Wacky Events at Concerts - What's Yours?

This one might be an example of being a bad older brother.  In the early 90s, I took my brother to his first Rollins Band show.  I believe that no band ever has been as good live as the Rollins Band.  Neither here nor there.

So, I wanted to get in the pit, sort of needed the release, had to really let it go.

So, my younger brother was like 15, his first real punk rock show.  Terrified.  He was there with my ex and myself.  I knew I wanted him to be okay, and I was not going to be gone long.  So...I asked some nice skin heads to watch him.  traditionally the skins stand pretty still at the shows, and they are protective by nature, all with pretend aspirations to be soldiers in a revolution.  So I gave them my little brother to watch, and away I went.

Needless to say...when this conversation happened it sort of sucked...Mom asks "How was the show?"  Younger brother responds, "It was great, Dino gave me to some skin heads so he could go mosh."

Mom says..."Dino...you gave your brother to skinheads?"

Yeah, that went over well.

An example of being a good brother...we went to see Social Distortion when they were opening for the Ramones.  The Ramones being  the true north in my life musically...well my brother did not care at all.  He was there for Social Distortion...so that was that.  He did not feel good, and we left before the Ramones set.  Thats a good older brother.
