Topic: Page To Reunite With Beck For Yardbirds Reunion Tour

According to an industry insider, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck are going to tour as The Yardbirds this fall alongside founding bassist Chris Dreja and drummer Jim McCarty. The tour is said to kick off this October. It’s unclear who will be the reformed Yardbirds’ lead singer (original vocalist Keith Relf died of electrocution in 1976). Eric Clapton, the Yardbirds’ founding guitarist, has no plans to participate, according to the source.

Page and Beck’s tenure in the Yardbirds overlapped by only a few months in 1966, but they have remained close friends since. The British blues legends disbanded in July of 1968, although Dreja and McCarty have been touring steadily under the Yardbirds name since the 1990s, and are currently on the road through August. The band reunited for one night in 1992 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Re: Page To Reunite With Beck For Yardbirds Reunion Tour

The Yardbirds just played the Red Devil Lounge in SF not too long ago. I wonder if Page And Beck will replace the newer members in the current band or just fill on certain songs? Regardless it would be worth seeing, at a reasonable ticket price though, I wouldn't pay more than $100 to see anybody. I think these high priced re-union concerts are flat out greed.

A nerve has just been struck here. I'm going to post a new topic on ticket pricing.

This is the act that came through SF recently. I think there are two original members, but they have a website you can google to find out more.

Re: Page To Reunite With Beck For Yardbirds Reunion Tour

Well, the old saying is if it's too good to be true?

Beck denies he's reforming the Yardbirds with Page

(Saturday July 21, 2007 01:20 PM)

Rocker JEFF BECK has denied reports he and JIMMY PAGE are reuniting
legendary 1960s band THE YARDBIRDS for a tour to begin in October
(07).

Beck and Page were said to be recruiting bassist Chris Deja and
drummer Jim McCarty for the road trip, with former member Eric Clapton
refusing to take part.

But Beck's manager tells website Billboard.com "there is no truth to
any of the rumours" regarding the guitar ace's involvement in a
potential reunion.

The Yardbirds had the distinction of seeing three of the most
highly-regarded guitarists of a generation - Beck, Page and Clapton -
pass through its ranks.

Beck and Page's presence in the band overlapped for a few months in
1966, a time in Yardbirds history captured by a performance in the
classic movie Blow Up.

The Yardbirds split in 1968 and original vocalist Keith Relf died
from electrocution in 1976, although Deja and McCarty have been
touring under the name since the 1990s. (August tour dates listed at
www.yardbirds.us )

AS for The Yardbirds, even without Beck or Page, they'd still be well worth seeing.  They have a great guitarist Ben King who does justice to the originals. Check out  their latest live offering, 'Live At B.B. King' for an excellent representation of what they're like live.

The Yardbirds 2007 are:

Jim McCarty-drums

Chris Dreja-guitar

John Idan- bass/lead vocals

Ben King-guitar

Billy Boy Miskimmin -harmonica

and on percussion for the American dates:

Don Bish

Re: Page To Reunite With Beck For Yardbirds Reunion Tour

Well, the Zep reunion was a joke, the Yardbird reunion is a joke, these internet sources are bulls**t. Reminds me of when all the stuff was swirling around the Razorbacks head football coach. From internet message boards, a whole news story broke out that he was going to be bought out. Stupid "sources."
