Topic: Dedicated To.....

Ever since I listened to Rocket's beautiful shout for his son (Jackson Browne's "These Days" with David Lindley), I've wanted to do the same for someone special to me.  I hope that others will join in with dedications as they carry such meaning.
The song I choose today is "Genesis" by Jorma Kaukonen.  This song was recorded for a solo project during the height of his involvement with Jefferson Airplane.  Quah is an excellent acoustic blues album and Jorma's at the height of his powers.  The words are included in the video and I have to take a deep breath reading them.  This is for my beloved Mitzi.

Re: Dedicated To.....

very beautiful song Scott, I can see how it carries a lot of meaning for you in these times. Thoughts and prayers will continue for her, hang tough the both of you, you are not alone in this journey. My father came to love Hot Tuna because of Papa John Creach, we played it often when family gathered at his house for dinner or whatever. This is special as well.

So sweet Scott. Hang in there and keep the Faith, as Rocket would say. My best to Mitzi and if you need me I'm always available. wink  Cathy

Re: Dedicated To.....

A lovely and sad song. We've had a lot of pain here lately. I'm sitting by your side in spirit and Mitzi's too. Peace and solace to you Scott.

My deep and sincere sympathies to you and your family.

This song always asked one of the toughest question possible:

....we all take solace from words, sounds and vibrations Scott ...to bring back moments, memories and loves of lives lost...all a part of the rich tapestry! ...big hugs Bud!

Re: Dedicated To.....

Thanks everyone for the kind words, but you all should know that my wife is hanging in there and is actually improving.  It's a slow process and a bit frightening at times yet we oddly feel a great amount of gratitude.  Pete's words are right on the mark describing the connection music gives me and that's why I started this thread.  To all my friends here you'll have to forgive my shifting musical moods.  Right now I'm listening to Nils Lofgren covering the Everly Brothers.  Nils is no slouch pickin' a guitar.

Re: Dedicated To.....

Earlier this week I found out my best friend from college is near death.  During our youth we listened to a lot of music together, partied like it was 1999 even though it was '73 and stayed in touch through the decades.  He was a classic rock lover and I remember on one occasion giving him the Black Crowes Live at the Greek (with Jimmy Page) and he loved it.  The last music I recall playing for him was John Mayer's Room For Squares album and I remember him asking who it was and he liked that too.  Reading Roy's tribute to his friend this week got me thinking about the people that have made a difference in my life - the people that you genuinely tell you love.  In a couple weeks his ex-wife and I are going to drive up to the little prairie town in Illinois where he resides and say goodbye.
The dedication I've chosen may seem odd, but I think he'd like this tune....

Thought about this more and think maybe the Mayer vid wasn't right - though I like that duet.

Here's some more that have more meaning...

Re: Dedicated To.....

Had a hard time finding a song and just decided to use this one for the title.
On a gloomy afternoon, on Friday the 13th no less, my son Quinn would play the round of his life in leading his high school over a city rival.  He played real well last week in a 19 team Invitational where he finished 3rd individually, but Friday's performance conjured up images of the Bishop in Caddyshack.  It gradually started raining with 3 holes left, but nothing was going interrupt him tying the course record.  He shot a 29 that easily could've been a 27.  Our school is annually one of the best in the state of Indiana and one of our alumni, Jeff Overton, currently plays on the PGA Tour.  Don't know for sure, but I don't think anyone at his school ever broke 30.  The local newspaper is doing a story about it next week.
Here's my dedication to my son Quinn.....

Re: Dedicated To.....

this is for Susan Gales, Eric's ex wife who passed away yesterday. I have reason to believe it was unexpected, son got the call late last night. They were still good friends, and she was the subject matter behind the songs Sea of Bad Blood, and Too Late to Cry Now from Transformation. We hung out with her a lot on trips to Memphis, she was a very nice person, fun to be around. Her daughter by another marriage is Mrs A, Eric's business manager for some time now. I know Eric spilled some tears when he got the news, so I'll let him do it, she loved his music. RIP Susan, hope you are in blues heaven.

Re: Dedicated To.....

Today is my wife's other birthday - the four year anniversary of her transplant.  Thursday we'll be driving to Indianapolis for her three month check-up with her transplant doctor.  We always look forward to seeing our Dr. John, especially Mitzi because he's such a great guy.  He's also an unbelievable physician.  Our visit this week will be our last with him as he has taken a new job at Duke University Medical Center.  If ever there was an angel on earth for someone then it's him for us.
One of the main reasons I buy a lot of music is to make him a disc when I see him.  I've been doing it for four years and with his leaving I'll probably take a much needed break.  He loves all kinds of music from The Great American Songbook, to Jazz, Pop, Blues, Classic Rock and Alternative.  The last song I got for his last disc I'll include here and dedicate to this great man.  What's cool is the lyrics of the song were changed to include his name...only the Johnny here is someone else.  This was also the last song sung on the Johnny Carson Show performed by Bette Midler.  They said it was Carson's favorite song and it's also one of mine too.

Re: Dedicated To.....

Here in Indy finishing up some tests.  Our last visit came and went without anyone breaking down.  Just wanted to say again how important this doctor has been to my wife and me.  I'll add another vid in dedication later when I get home.

Thanks Cathy!  I pray you're right.  It was a tough day, but life goes on.
