Topic: Isolated guitar tracks from Joe?

Hey all,

I have just installed the latest firmware for my Axe-FX II which now allows 'tone profiling' from well known guitar tracks out there.

As expected, the Fractal Audio community is going crazy profiling all their favourite tones at the moment.

I was wondering if there were any good demo tracks of Joe playing via his rig that I could use to experiment with this feature.  I know Joe has done a bunch of demos of him just playing - I'm trying to cherry pick the best ones where there is a good, clean recording of him playing?

Here's something that might be of interest to gear head on here.  As part of this process, someone found the isolated guitar tracks of Jimmy Page's playing on Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On":

Well, here is an early shot at sampling Joe's tone from his demo video at Amsterdam last year.  I used the Dumble ODS-100 and the Marshall JCM800 series amps in parallel on the Axe-FX, via 4x12 EV12L cab IR's

First 20 seconds is of course Joe, the rest is me trying (very badly) to cop his licks... tongue

Pretty cool Devan. Wish I knew how to do all that, would help my playing immensely! -S

It's actually pretty easy in the Axe-FX now.  All you need is an isolated guitar clip of about 10 to 15 seconds duration, then you set the Axe-FX to a similar amp/cab that the original artist uses, and simply play the clip to the Axe-FX and it will auto-magically configure everything to sound the same.

It's very cool technology, and even the new Kemper Profiling Amp does a similar thing...

It's a GREAT time to be a guitar player these days!! smile

Jonny - here you go.  Not sure I got the Reverb quite right - after all, this was in a large hall area...

WOW ... I'm honestly amazed at how close that thing gets...can you run it through a cabinet so it basically acts as a head??

If so...I HAVE to save up for one of these!!!

Thanks so much !

They're pretty configurable - you can run it as just a preamp, or else you can chain virtual cabinets, IRs and mics in the mix as well.

A lot of guys just run it as a preamp though, and plug it into a powered monitor, or even their guitar amps.  I used to plug it into the FX loop of my Mesa Boogie DC-10 (bypassing the amps own preamp stage) and it was great, but for maximum flexibility, I still use the virtual cabs/mics and plug it into my Verve powered monitor now.

This way, I can choose whether it sounds like a 1x10, 2x12 or 4x12 etc. etc.  literally thousands of cabinets and microphones to choose from.

Now with the tone matching feature, you can pretty much emulate any guitar tone past or present.  You should see what the guys on the Fractal Forums are coming up with at the moment... mind blowing stuff!

This is very cool!  I didn't know this feature existed.  I have an Axe-Fx standard and I've been thinking about upgrading to the II.

That's great....do you notice much difference between this emulator and a real tube amp (response, dynamics etc)?

Thanks
