Topic: The Black Crowes

Any Black Crowes fans?

We purchased our tickets to see the Black Crowes at the HOB Orlando for their Aug. 24 appearance.   I've never seen them live, but I've been a fan for a long time and am really looking forward to their show.

Hi Susan,
I saw The Black Crowes open for Tom Petty (another AWESOME show) a couple of years back and they were great that night(seated arena).  I saw them this past May(all general admission) and they were great again.  Someone threw a beer up on stage and Chris Robinson stopped the show with a screeching halt and said, well actually yelled...."This ain't your f****** living room..."  and then there was dead silence.......concert resumed and there were no more beers thrown at the stage..........
That was a wild, wooley, & wacky one!   Hang on Susan & have fun!       Patty

Re: The Black Crowes

Thanks for the heads up Patty.  Sounds like Cris had a legitimate gripe though.  It all goes back to fan manners.  Hopefully, we won't encounter any incidents of that nature. We're hoping to have a really fun evening and hear some really good music.

Love 'em!! Been playing the "Southern...." CD in my car all week.

Re: The Black Crowes

i have been to a few thousand shows and they are the only band i walked out on . maybe it was a bad night for them but they sucked live . chris was screamming into the mic i couldn't figure out a word he was saying . i like them alot better in the studio live they sucked . just my two cents ...joe

Re: The Black Crowes

I made it half way through the show a year or so ago. They have tried to go jam band and frankly they aren't good enough to improvise a 15 minute song. They turned a mediocre 5 minute song into 15 minutes of torture.
Sounded like the the guitar players were playing different tunes. It was a train wreck. I think I told somebody I wouldn't of made it as long as I did but I was hoping Kate Hudson would turn up.

I like some of the studio stuff and their live album with Jimmie Page at the Greek is good. Other than that maybe if you expect the worst when you see them then you won't get too dissapointed  when they give it to you.

Re: The Black Crowes

I saw them a few years back when Jimmy Page played with them and it was great -
however when I saw them alone it was just OK, but we were not close to the stage
which makes a difference.

My vote is that you go and have fun!   Every concert of anybody is a different experience for us all, with maybe the exception of Air Supply.  I can't believe I let one of my friends talk me in to going. (At least I didn't pay for the ticket.)  I love all kinds of music and can tolerate almost anything, but this was the one I couldn't stay for.  (Sorry if there are any Air Supply fans wink )

Re: The Black Crowes

If you're a fan you won't be disappointed.  They ususally play some pretty long sets at HOB shows.  I saw them a couple weeks ago in OshKosh, Wi.  It was a great time.  They pulled out a Dylan cover, Girl of the North Country, and a Stones cover, Can You Hear Me Knocking.

I have to disagree with a couple other responses, they've had amazing guitarists, from Audley Freed, Marc Ford, and Paul Stacey.  Currently Paul Stacey plays lead and Rich Robinson rhythm.  I can understand how you might not appreciate their live show if you're not a fan, but since you are, you will have a blast.

Re: The Black Crowes

Gee - another Wisconsinite!  I lived in Oshkosh for 4 years - a long time ago.  Saw some
of the best bands I've ever seen there - it used to be quite the party town.

I have to agree with Jim here.  I saw them a few weeks ago and thought it was an absolute train wreck.  It was like the guitarists were in the wrong key.  I like The Black Crowes--just not live.

I do too.  "Sting Me" is also one of my favorites.

Thanks everybody for all the input, I think .... roll

I think I'll take Jim's advice and go expecting to be disappointed, and maybe I won't be.  Hopefully, the band has their s@#$ together by now.  If not,  Oh well...
I'll post again after the show.

Re: The Black Crowes

I've seen the Black Crowes several times. The last time was when Jimmy Paige toured with them. That was an excellent show! The farther away from the stage the better because they play loud and it tends to distort. Even though I've enjoyed their shows, I do have to agree with a few here, they're a better studio band.  Have fun!

Re: The Black Crowes

BEST LIVE BAND ON THE PLANET!!!

I've seen um 23 times....incredible.  3 hour shows are the norm, and they play EVERYTHING.  Check out crowesbase.com to see how much they do.

It helps to know an album or two of theres before ya go...don't miss um.

Re: The Black Crowes

For any of you Crowes fans from Wisconsin - Marc Ford is playing at Oneida Casino in

Re: The Black Crowes

I'm not from Oshkosh, I made the drive from Grand Rapids, Michigan to see the show.  It was a fun town to party in, cheap beers and the best beer idea/deal I've ever seen at a concert venue; $15 for a 6pack in a bucket full of ice.  No more missing some of the show waiting in line.  You can't beat that.  I'd love to see Marc Ford solo, though I wish he was still in the Crowes, that guy can rip; maybe he'll come around to Michigan sometime.
