Nice to see a perfect game by an unhearalded player!
Pads finally got a win and snapped a 13 game winning streak the Phillies had at Petco, beating Halliday even! Leubke pitched a two hit gem.

Phil Humber of the White Sox pitches the 21st perfect game in MLB history and the third in White Sox history. Nothing even close to a hit. I didn't see it all, but obviously a dominating performance.

I watched the highlights Big Bill, really happy for the man, I had to Wiki the cat to look at his history, didnt know much bout him....that was an awfull call on that check swing to end the game, Ryan didnt even come close to swinging and checked it very clearly....can you imagine if Ryan had run immediately instead of arguing, Humber might have lost that perfecto, AJ had to really hustle to throw the ball to first

If any of you are interested in seeing the reincarnation swing of Willie Mays, check out Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland As, the "Cuban Missle" unloads his bat as close to Willie as anyone I have ever seen, and that includes exGiant Kevin Mitchell.....his biggest problem is trying to hit everyball 500ft, makes no 2 strike adjustment.....Cespedes will destroy the alltime whiff record if he doesnt adjust his aproach, but WOW!!! very entertaining to see play....he badly miss judged a fly ball hit directly at him in the game last night, made him look lazy as he broke back at the crack and appeared to "loaf" for the ball that dropped 10 feet in front of him.....on a side note, there were alot of oldtimer players from the 1972 World Series Champions, the As honored the team last night....it looked like Dick Green (what a glove!) and Bert Camperneris could turn a double play still, I got emotional watching the festivities as well as the game, a few players went up to the booth and were interviwed as the game was played.....I cant believe Catfish Hunter went to heaven so young, it really crushed me as he was my favorite As player, he signed that free agent contract to play for my Yankees, and it made me root for him even more....he also threw a perfect game in 1968 if you all recall.....got to tweak the lyrics "that's the As in the white shoes, the white shoes...."......sorry SRV, could not resist... About all I had the energy for after gettin' back from Reno was hittin' the couch for some baseball. Tuned in the A's game and enjoyed all those memories as well. What I really enjoyed was Cleveland winning the game though, sorry Bubba, those are my guys. Wish we all could've hung out in Reno Sat. night for the Rivercats/Aces game, the weather was spectacular!

Shreddy,
Kenny Holzman was my favorite pitcher dating back to his days with the Cubs. I cheered for those A's teams because of him. They sure were a fun team to watch.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Hey Bill smile ....you would have loved the interview with Kenny....he lives in St. Louis now (are you kidding) and has picked up 100lbs, but he still has that mug we all remember.....I loved the As back then too, and Kenny was always money......I remember when him and Catfish made a bet to see who could rake more than the other, I believe Catfish hit .350 and Kenny .340ish....Ray Fosse and him had some great stories.....one game Ken threw 120 pitches, only one was a curve, the rest fastballs!!....he doesnt have  much respect for the "5 inning" starter, Ken threw 54 complete games in his lifetime....as a side note, I know how big your Cubbies are to you......I completely tried to replicate Ferguson Jenkins delivery when I pitched back in the day (why not, he won 20 games like 6 years in a row) well I walked 8 batters in a row and drilled another.....it was time to scratch THAT idea lol

Ive said it once, and I'll say it forever, Bobby Valentine is a TOOL!!!....that guy has done nothing more than piss off the fans as well as the players....as Pedroia said the other day after BV called out Youkalis "that's not how WE go about our business here"....in other words, your not Redsox family Bobby, and PLEASE let the door hit you in the behind as you get fired by the seasons end.....this coming from a Yankee fan too.....one word for Valentine will describe him.....PRIMADONNA!!!!!....so long chump smile

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

yeah, Boston has continued their meltdown from end of last year, glad to say the Braves have not. Taking 3 of 4 at the Dbacks was great, and now we go to the fargin Doyers who had their own meltdown yesterday. The good news is that we won't have to face Kershaw or Billingsley in a 3 game series, it just worked out that way with their rotation. smile

Your welcome 2x's more today Tres. The Gi's took the double-dip from NYM today to pad the Bravos lead over them a little more for now. Timmy got his first win and Schierholtz & the Panda were on fire. Now your guys could help the Gigantes by messin' wit dem LA bums.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

The Giants are gelling.....lookout!!......It appears to me the shortstop (Crawford) will end up being another Johnnie Lee, but if can keep up that glove, I'll take it....yes I know he had 3 knocks yesterday, but the "Mendoza Line" is no compliment....they got a bonafied hitting major League team now....Timmy is getting closer, Big Daddy, Voge, and Bummer are some of the best starters on any major League roster, they have to keep the bully fresh, closer by commitee is a worry, I'd look to pick up a good one as the other teams start to fade in the 2nd half....

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

yeah, thanks for the help SF, and Dbacks. Good to see Timmy back in form, I know some "experts" are now questioning the velocity on his fastball, of course they need something controversial to talk about. Very sorry that we could not return the favor. Capuano kept our bats in check and Jair was "wild in the strike zone", he could not keep it down and did not move locations in and out. We'll try to return the favors again tonight.

Rick, I see your Padres are experiencing the kind of start to the season more usual for the O's and Nats (the two teams that I keep an eye on). The Nats appear to have some pretty hot pitching this year! cool

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

the Nats are hot George, I believe they lead the division. My Braves are also pretty hot and doing well on this 7 game road trip, good to beat LA last night even though it was a last out miracle of sorts. Chipper Jones turned 40 yesterday and celebrated with a solo shot. Would be nice to win tonight and take the series.

We are hoping they do likewise at Turner in ATL. It is amazing how many of ours are caught on the warning track. I watched last week or so ago in horror as Jack Wilson hit what would have been his first homer since the middle ages, only to have it caught at the wall before it could get out.

Death Valley is the outfield's name due to the heavy marine air effect and lack of wind. I imagine they'll put a short fence in on the warning track to cut down the field 6 or 8 feet if they go through with it. The way I see it is it will aid the other teams more though. It seems our pitching is good again but the hitting is even more pitiful and they lead the league in errors. We've got a bunch of tier 3 guys playing out their careers. The fans are calling for bringing up the AAA kids for some seasoning since the prospects for the season are nil as it is. Go get those Dodgers.

Albert Pujols: A .219 batting average with just 4 RBIs in his first month for the last place Angels.  Oh, and did I mention 0 homers in 92 at bats?  Looks like the Cards are the big winners in the greed sweepstakes.

My Padres continue to assist in piling up records. roll Detroit came to town last night and Braun, playing on appeal from his 50 game suspension, whacked 3 homers and a triple, setting a Petco record. Move the fences OUT!
