Re: looking for a new guitar

Why not sell a couple of strats as well and get something really special like a Joe B ES-335.  I still like the SG you showed us last week.

Re: looking for a new guitar

Only 3 of them of them are mine (my brother and I just share) and only one is a Fender.... I get super attached to guitars and it kills me to get rid of them... The SG will come this summer

Re: looking for a new guitar

Love my SG.  Its a 2001 Standard.  Sold it a few years ago but got it back and like get super attached.  This one is staying in the family.

Re: looking for a new guitar

Well, out of the blue last night, I bought a white 2007 '61 SG RI... Gonna set it up just like Joe sets up his LP's... I even got some JB pickups for it. Should be a great guitar. Now to finish the rig.

Re: looking for a new guitar

WOW!  Your going to love that SG Ri.  The stock pickups are fantastic 57' classics.  I wanted one really bad back before I was married, but life as they say gets in the way and has different plans.  I wouldn't change my life as it is now, but I sure do like those 61 SG Reissues!  I'm sure those cheap Seymour Duncans will be fun too.  You going to replace those crappy Gibson pots?

Re: looking for a new guitar

Yep, I'm ordering a RS Guitar Works harness to drop in it... I'm also swapping out the Nashville tune-o-matic out for a Faber ABR-1 that I've got laying around, and changing the Kluson tuners for Grovers... It should turn out to be a pretty killer axe

Re: looking for a new guitar

Whats special about the Faber ABR-1?  I know they offer alluminum stop tail pieces and its supposed to make a big difference in tone but are those toms aluminum as well?

Re: looking for a new guitar

its aluminum with brass saddles... but I'm doing what Joe does with the nylon saddles on the top 3 strings

I do, however, like the looks of the LP Traditionals... and they are pretty affordable.

I've got a 2008 LP Traditional - it's a great guitar.  Love it.  The 57s are very "classic" sounding, and the neck is great.

At some point I want to put in a TonePros (or other aftermarket) bridge and need to refret w/ stainless steel frets.

You might also consider a PRS SC or Carvin California Single.  Lots of options out there.

Re: looking for a new guitar

I checked their web site out but I didn't see anything about the part being made of aluminum.  I saw the saddles were brass with an option to upgrade to titanium.  It would be a steal if was aluminum though.  much better then pot metal, I still wanna get a Calaham 1080 steel ABR-1, but $150 seems steep.

Re: looking for a new guitar

My mistake... I may have mixed up the two... I've been looking at a lot of different stuff, and yes $150 was steep to me too, so i went with the $60 option.

Re: looking for a new guitar

I'm not saying your wrong, one would be steel and the other might be aluminum.  If it was thats what I would go for.  They can pot aluminum so it could be.  Can't cast Steel though.  Only way to make that into something is to mill it out.

Re: looking for a new guitar

Gotcha. Im excited for her to get a complete makeover. I'm going to try to do as much as I can by myself... But I'm terrified of messing it up so what I can't do easily, I'm going to try to watch someone and learn.

Re: looking for a new guitar

Tom bridge is easy.  Stop tail piece easy.  Truss rod is black magic to me.  I've adjusted guitars and it was a complete success and did exactly what I wanted it to do.  Then other guitars I've adjusted don't like their rods adjusted and I never could get them back in the same shape they were in before I messed with it.  I preffer to keep the neck as straight as I can and the strings from the nut 1mm off the fret board.  I do 3/32nds off the fret board from the 17th fret.  Pickups are adjusted with the string pressed on the last fret 3mm away from the pickup and string on the bass side, 1mm on the treble.

Re: looking for a new guitar

She came today! The string that came with her were entirely too light so I took them off, installed the Grover rotomatics... still waiting on some other parts to get here before I put it all together... will string it up with either 10's or 11's. The neck is a lot thinner than I am used to... gonna have to get used to that

Re: looking for a new guitar

Just pulled the Nashville TOM and inserts... waiting on the new Faber inserts to get here so I can install them. The biggest problem so far is the nylon saddles don't fit on the Faber ABR-1 bridge... they were like $20 too. Gonna have to find ones that fit correctly.

Re: looking for a new guitar

As many Bonamassa fans are around here I bet you could put them on the market place and sell them for most of your money back.

Re: looking for a new guitar

I'm not sure what it will fit on, to tell the truth... I tried it on the nashville bridge... no dice... tried it on the ABR-1... no dice. I don't know how to advertise them, and I dont know if they even work for what we need... I'll just take the hit. Stay away from the All Parts nylon saddles haha
