Topic: string buzz

Hey guys,

I'm new to the top wrapping thing.  I like the feel of it with the heavier strings.  But, I am having some buzzing issues with the B & high E strings on my Epi JB model.  Do I just need to adjust the bridge till the buzz goes away?

Re: string buzz

If you just put heavy strings on the guitar, it might be the pull on the neck, and nedds a truss rod adjustment. Although buzzing on only the B and E mean you could try making the bridge higher on that side. Just remember how my 1/8th turns you did in case you want to go back. 1/8 turn does a lot.

I'm starting to like a higher action now that I've been playing for years. It gives the strings more room to osculate and for longer (sustain).

If your neck is good, action is good, you might have suspect fret that needs leveling.

This is where $30 for a deluxe setup from your favorite luthier comes in good use.

Re: string buzz

It's a brand new guitar.  And it was set up.  But, I changed the strings to heavier strings and went to the top wrapped style.  I'll try adjusting the bridge a little and see where that gets me.  Thanks!!

Re: string buzz

My old Classic had parts that would buzz when I top warpped.  Replaced the brige with tone pros and it was fine.  Before I bought tone pros I put instant adhesive on the saddles locking them in place and it fixed my problems.  Messed up the hardware so do yourself a favor and buy tone pros instead of trying to trouble shoot an issue.

Re: string buzz

Heavier strings will probably need neck adjustment if you put heavier ones on since the setup. Action for bigger strings usually needs to be slightly higher too though.

+1

Higher action and truss rod adjustment to remove some of the bow caused by the additional tension on the neck ..all will be fine
