One of my biggest beefs with Gibson was they offer a flame top guitar and it comes at a premium, but you get it and it has very little flame to it. When I saw this one I said to myself "This is a Flame top guitar!" I'd be much happier playing a premium on a AAA top and get those narly flames then paying the premium for a flame top only to get a simi plain top. Not that a plain top is bad.

That's why is betetr to buy one in person...rather than through the mail for a flametop....you can always ship it back & waste more money.
I agree w/you they have little flame compared to ones from even the mid 90's.......plus tops from the 90's are better than the AAAAA tops of today.
And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

WOW these things are looking good. I'm really happy to see Gibson stepping up to put out a good Les paul again. When was the last time you saw a Standard with a solid 1pc. back like this one. And the tops have all kinds of flame to them. I'm thinking I'd rather blow money on this guitar thats about $200 more then the 2008 les paul standards that had some examples of really poor choices of wood.
