Topic: NCAA Baseball

Finally a little something to crow about for my alma mater.  LSU defeated Alabama 10-2 last night.  Game two today and game three Sunday on ESPN2.

Geaux Tigers!

Re: NCAA Baseball

Yeah Mike, I don't think we have much this year. However the SEC as a whole is fairly loaded, we should get at least 2 or 3 to Omaha. You guys ranked?

I see ya sitting at #4 now, not bad. If my eyes don't deceive me the SEC has 5 teams in the top ten right now. When did Kentucky start playing good baseball, somebody call Liz? Now if they just got their football team going in the right direction they would be a triple threat.

Yes, UK Bat Cats are off to one of their best starts EVER! 32-5 overall and 11-4 SEC. Sadly it's all being over shadowed by that other sport's National Championship and a few guys talking about the NBA! Excited to see how the remainder of the season progresses. I'm not holding my breath for football catch up any time soon wink

Re: NCAA Baseball

Liz, by the time they get into the regionals the basketball hype will be over, UNLESS it's NBA draft night and I'm not sure when that is. I will keep a close eye on both LSU and KY. YEA, I see now that they have restored your post count. cool

Re: NCAA Baseball

LSU vs. Kentucky 3 game series this weekend in Lexington.  UK has a 2 game lead on the Tigers for best of the SEC so it should be a good series.

BTW...glad to see your post count back Liz

Re: NCAA Baseball

I will be looking for that Mike, should be on the tube somewhere. And look who else is sneaking up on Bonametal, let the countdown begin.

Our Aztec team has done well in the past with local legend and coach Tony Gwynn. This year, not so hot. Tony has taken time off to fight a recurrence of the big C in his salivary glands. Years of chaw taking its toll.

Thanks Rockfarmer good to be back! Don't be surprised if it gets rained out, Saturday at least forecasting MUCH cooler temperatures and lots of rain. Hopefully Sunday will be okay. If it's not raining I may try to catch a few innings, it is UK Rugby Alumni weekend, and the rubgy pitch in close proximity of the baseball field. Their match will go on rain or shine but these days I'm a fair weather fan and will catch the Alumni at the indoor party afterward!!!

Re: NCAA Baseball

Bat Cats, have a chance to take the SEC Title this weekend, only their 2nd ever in program history. We'll see? Either way, an outstanding regular season, hopefully it continues on this weekend against Mississippi State and on to the post season play smile

Our other San Diego team, USD is looking to make a run in CWS, currently ranked #20 nationally. Maybe our teams will have a meetup later Liz. smile

Depends on which poll you look at. I saw them ranked 29th even though they have a better record than #1 Fla. As of May 15th San Diego was 38-13 and Fla. was 38-14. East coast, West Coast bias??? The Pac 12 has 5 teams in the top 20.

Re: NCAA Baseball

With LSU's 10 inning  3-2 win over South Carolina today and with Kentucky's 11-4 loss to Mississippi State, LSU win it's record 15th SEC Championship.  LSU will likely be chosen to host a Super Regional but first on to the SEC tournament in Hoover, AL.

GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Re: NCAA Baseball

Congrats to them Tigers! I won't be able to make any games here even though just 10 minutes away, but will watch them closely as it progresses. Upward and onward to Omaha.

Re: NCAA Baseball

The Tigers are ranked between 2 and 5 depending on what poll you look at, but being in the top 8 is what matters to host a super regional and play games at home so this is excellant news for the team.

LSU's Raph Rhymes was named SEC Player of the Year and finished the regular season with a nation leading .469 batting average.  Sure...college pitchers aren't MLB level and college uses aluminum bats, but I suspect there are more than a few MLB scouts that are closely this young man.  I would be very surpprised if he returns for his senior year

Re: NCAA Baseball

Congrats on the great performance in the SEC Mike.
An incredible donation was announced today  from a wealthy member of the USD board. He is donating a beautiful baseball venue in a natural ampitheater on campus which will have the capacity to host super regionals in the future. Shouldn't hurt recruiting either with a state-of-the-art facility. Construction planned to be completed next March. USD, a private Catholic University, has always had a strong baseball team and been nationally competitive before.

Congratulations to the national champion Arizona Wildcats who beat South Carolina two straight games to claim victory in the college world series.
