Same problem in the same elbow as last season, should've elected to do the surgery last season instead of letting him pitch again at the tail end of the season. This will be his second TJ surgery, had one in college too.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Just when our Puds were showing some life, an ump makes a hairbrained motion and freezes a rally into a triple play. Dodgers pitcher tosses a beanball, batter puts his hands and bat up as he ducks to avoid it, ball hits bat and caroms off plate. Ump signals foul, batter and runners on 1st and 2nd freeze, ump then changes his call to fair and catcher pounces on the ball in front of home plate and starts the triple play.  The league will " review and take it under advisement for possible future changes".

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I saw that replay Rick and was amazed that the four of them could not make it right. I don't think the dish ump saw it before the catcher picked it up, but he surely heard it hit wood and not jersey or something else. They are human, but no excuse for that.
Very sorry to hear about B Wilson, but saw an interview with him and he seems in high spirits, resigned to it is what it is. He said he might make some announcing booth appearances. Bring him to Atlanta when ya'll come, I'm sure they will, maybe he could sit in with our guys and another guest announcer like Dale Murphy or John Smoltz. It would be a hoot.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

The Giants had members of the 1962 World Series out on the field the other day, some I saw play later when I realized what a great game this was and all the pioneers.....fast forward, I feel sad.....they will all be gone and I too will be history, but the stories of the game I remember, I share to this day.....one story is a game at  old Candelstick Park and Willie McCovey hit 2 consecutive pitches completely out of the stadium, but both were fowl.....McCovey had the most feared swing I have EVER seen, he was 6 feet 5 inches, 240lbs and you could hear the air swish when he would unload.....today he's in a wheelchair and I tear up sometimes when I see him on TV, I cant believe he lived down the street for a very short time in the late 60s, I saw him walking one time and could only stare in awe of the big man with that soft southern gentlemans voice

Oh the memories...."where have you gone Joe Dimmagio, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you......"

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Willie was indeed a great one in that day Shred. I always compared him to Willie Stargell, one of my alltime favs. Both could launch rockets but fairly sure that McCovey's stats were better.
My Braves had lost 4 to the Mets so far this year, but last night we sent Johan Santana to the showers in the 2nd inning. It was his shortest appearance ever in the big leagues. Playing them a day game now, but we fly out tonight. Not wonderful news, our next 7 games are on the road at the D-Backs and Doyers. I would be happy if we come out of that 3-4.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Oh man, this is going to be  a veeery long season. Record setting performance again as they folded to 49 year old Moyer. We can now say "We're #1" with a firm lock on worst in baseball. This harks back to the expansion days for futility. I see a mid 50 win season looming. (if they're lucky) To make it worse, I'm caught in cable hell with my TW provider locked in an impasse with the new host and a blackout on games is the result. Well, maybe that is not so bad since I don't have to watch them. hmm  One of my Padre fan neighbors is looking into a breach of contract issue to get sat DTV instead of cable since they touted the games as part of the package for signups last year when he and I renewed. Here's hoping since that would get me some of that Joe music on Palladia, which is not in my package.
Look out Shreddy, them danged Dodgers are looking pretty good. Kemp is already making a case for MVP.

The Nats first team to 10 wins, who'd a thunk it? tongue Do any of you think that they could actually have a good season and make the playoffs, or is this early form a fluke?

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

it's still a little early George, but I do think they have a good chance of competing in the east with my Braves. I like their chances better than ours right now. I knew they would be better this year, as well as Miami. didn't count on the Mets making any noise but they have done well so far.
side note, ATL picked up Levon Hernandez, he came in yesterday in the 9th to close out the win over the Mets. I always hated facing him at WSH.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

A classic pitchers duel in SF last night with Matt Cain tossing 9 shutout innings on 2 hits and the Phillie's Cliff Lee going 10 shutout as well. Neither pitcher got a decision for their stellar efforts with the Giants winning 1-0 in the 11th. SF takes the series 2-1. Matt Cain has given up 3 hits and no runs in his last 2 starts, can't wait to see him take the mound again. Now if Lincecum can get his ERA down the Giants can make a move on LA.

yes, thank you Matt and Melky (former ATL Brave), we need all the help we can get. We get the Phils the first of May, but don't play SF until after the break, July 17 in ATL. Hopefully Matt will have cooled off a little by then.

Hahaha, it's a race to see who gets to 10 losses first, the Cubs or the Padres. The Cubs have the edge because of a day game today!

lol Maybe the Cubbies will win that due to time difference but with a 4 game series with the Phillies, I expect our boys will be leading the pack at the end of the weekend. This team is realllllly bad!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

you are also welcome NL West, Braves jumped on the depleted Dbacks last night. In fairness to them, they are not the same team with Upton, Blum, and Young out of the lineup. Freddie Freeman continues to be hot at the plate, 2 more dingers and 5 RBI last night, continuing on from his torrid HR run at the end of the spring games. It seems that the hitting just continues to improve since Chipper came back, however Juan Francisco subbed in at 3rd last night and had 2 hits and 2 RBI.
We'll go against the stingy Cahill tonight, great pitching so far except he has walked 8, and only 2 runs allowed in his first two outings.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Phil Humber of the White Sox pitches the 21st perfect game in MLB history and the third in White Sox history. Nothing even close to a hit. I didn't see it all, but obviously a dominating performance.

The general reaction is, 'who'? But of course, a stunning achievement. cool

There's more truly amazing stuff going on out there today. Joe's Yankees scored 15 runs in three innings to turn a 0-9 into a 15-9! Incredible. I think that's more runs than the Nats have scored in total in winning eight of their last 10 games.

Even Humber, in a post game interview, first said he didnt know what to say, then said something like "I don't know why my name is on this list of great players...but I'm glad it is". He was laughing and smiling the entire time. I love when non "super stars" write their names into such a significant part of the record books.
