Topic: SG Jr

So I am on the hunt for a reasonable priced early 60's SG Jr... my buddy went to a bunch of shops the other day and said he really liked the new SG Jr 60's. Just by looking at it, I can tell that the knobs aren't in the right spot and the fretboard is baked maple instead of rosewood... I don't think I could play it.

Re: SG Jr

My guitar tech let me play his '63 SG Jr. to keep me quiet while he was busy with a ton of orders... and I really loved that guitar.
I think they go for the range of $4,000-$6,500 on ebay but I'm not sure.

Re: SG Jr

they can be had for cheaper than that... I saw one going for $1,800 a couple weeks ago, but I didn't have the cash then. I don't really care if its beat up as long as its still solid and had no breaks. I'd like to keep it under $2,500. Total rock and roll guitars.

Re: SG Jr

Have you looked into Custom Shop models?  Not a jr but this is pretty cool http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electri … e-VOS.aspx

Re: SG Jr

That is a cool guitar... I just think that an SG with P90's is a quintessential rock and roll guitar... nice cutting tone. I love they way they scream (this is beginning to sound dirty lol).

If I see one for $1800-2000, I'd totally snap one up!

Those SGs have had SO much crap done to them though. Some had tremolos added or removed (most common) or added big Gover tuners to it... As long as there isn't significant modding or neck repairs... I'm happy!

Re: SG Jr

Amen to that. I'm a player first above anything else... All I really want is the original pickup and no neck issues. I'd be more concerned if I was a super collector but I just want to jam and not spend a fortune to do it and those old SG's have something that the new ones don't. But now that I know you're interested I will keep you updated on any good finds I come across.

Re: SG Jr

That is an amazing SG at a great price. I would have been suprised if it hadnt had tuner replacements and new frets. I would love to hear it. Pity, no international buyers

Re: SG Jr

I'm selling a catasrophically broken 1943 Martin 000-18 right now (dont have the time or funds to have it repaired as it should be) and I'm going to use the money I make from that to get an SG jr... I emailed that seller and he said that we will be in touch.

I'm 60 years old, and have seen a lot of new and used Sg Jrs over the years ( loved to browse We Buy and Sell when they were on 48th St), and own a '70 Sg Special since new.  Up until recently I have never seen a '60's SG that did not come with a Maestro.  If it doesn't have 3 screw holes behind the bridge/tailpiece I would do some serious research before I bought it.

Re: SG Jr

Just bought a house. Need to start saving up! cool

To thin my herd, I might employ a "buy 1, sell 2" mentality until I have a couple VERY nice guitars. I'm finding having a dozen or so somewhat collectible guitars is ok, but I'm constantly pulling out a select few to play that I cannot put down.
