Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

So, the Gigantes couldn't buy a win in AZ with their big 3 pitching. What's a team to do? They show up @ the launching pad known as Coors Field and hand the ball to the much maligned Barry Zito and hope he can get outta the 1st inning unscathed. So Zeets lulls the Rockies bats to sleep with fastballs maxing out @ 84mph and lobbing those 12 to 6 curveballs he's known for. So the outcome? Zeets pitches a complete game shutout and the Gi's give him 7 runs of support. Way to go Barry, hopefully he lit a fire under his team mates collective butts and maybe he can do it again.

Yes!  And think of the money saved for someone that wants to play for baseball's best city.  Just hope the pitching holds up.  Very excited for this year!

Can't wait to see what happens his next time out. With guys like Jamie Moyer still hangin' on Zito may have many years left in him.

they ain't the only ones Mike, Braves started 0-4 against the not so great Mets and Houston. Chipper Jones returned to the lineup last night, about 2 weeks ahead of schedule after the minor knee surgery. It was good to see him back, the team looked pumped up. He had a single in his first at bat, and a 2 run homer later, Braves win. Good to get the monkey off our back.

Knew if I shouted at them loud enough something would happen - pulled a tight one back against LAA; 2 run triple from Parmelee to even things up then Carroll got a go ahead RBI single.

Looks like they're in for problems in the rotation with Baker being out most the season with elbow surgery.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Ok, question time - how many consecutive home or away games can a team get?

I understand that scheduling must be complicated considering all the travel involved, but how on earth can the Cubs, for example, be playing their 7th consecutive home game, while other teams like the Nats, have played their first six games away. Normally speaking, teams are considered to have an advantage when  playing at home, though the stats show that ain't necessarily so.

So, what's the limit on consecutive games? Do teams have any say? Doesn't a system like this hand an advantage or disadvantage to teams with such long home or road stretches at the start of the season?

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

George, in past years my Atlanta team has gone on road trips up to 9 or 10 in a row. The schedule this year looks better, maybe only 6 or 7 in a row, home or away. We started with the first 6 on the road, but will be back home for our opener
tomorrow. Looks like the Cubs caught a break to start off, but I'll bet they are on the road after those 7.

It pretty much evens out over the 165 games or so.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

George: Series, either home or away, are either 3 or 4 games with possible additional makeup games later for rainouts. Often these makeup games are double headers. Some of the long road swings can  be against 3 teams for up to 9 or 10 games in the loop. Home field advantage is very much in play with teams tailored to fit the ideosyncracies of each park. The winning combo is to play .500 on the road and win at home.

Is Timmy back on the bong, or what? He has looked dreadful, too high in the strike zone and "center cutting" a lot of pitches with little or no movement. Hope he gets his head screwed back on quickly, could just be a bad start and he will come back to form. Tim Hudson at ATL has had this problem in past years.

the Rangers added the expensive 24" superdog, but this tops it by a little. Oh, look out, it has the dreaded "secret sauce". As usual, somebody will buy it.

Nope...Timmy is certainly NOT on the bong.....that's probably what he needs, and a little weight on his skinny arse....he's in the right city to get his head straight, he probably has the "Dead" night circled so he can volunteer for sweeping up the stands after the game

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Shred, got that t-shirt on the way outta AT&T last season, only in SF. Tim's in one of his mechanics funks which he's been through before. Don't no if any of you noticed he chopped 4 inches of his hair off before his last start, but that obviously wasn't the fix. Why does Sampson & Delilah come to mind??? I have no doubts that he'll correct what's wrong and eventually toss a no-hitter or two before he's done. Matt Cain snapped out of it throwing a 1 hit complete game shutout for Opening Day.
