Topic: Improv

Hey everybody,

So lately I've been focusing on improvisation in solo's and stuff. It isn't that hard, but I feel like I sometimes get stuck.
I don't mean that I stop playing, but I keep playing in the same 'boxes' (or how you'd call it....) and licks, and I'm trying to find a way to get out of that routine, to keep playing new stuff + some old licks (because we all need those classic ones, don't we?)

Re: Improv

Studying different styles of music can help. If you're a blues player, start studying jazz or country.

Play the licks you are playing in different positions on the neck.

Learn all the modes inside of the Major scale (Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian (minor), Locrian (diminished).

I found that digging into the modes and playing them has spawned new ideas for me and taken me to new places.
