Too cool!
Still my favorite brand and undisputed coolest guitar ever the Stratocaster!

that was awesome
Here's a tour of the Fender factory in 1959. You may notice that these workers work at a slower pace. How many OSHA violations can you find?

This must have been before safety glasses and respirators were invented
Really cool to watch those old videos. Didn't realize the factory was so small, reminded me of a larger high school shop only not churning out crappy picture frames or toilet paper holders.
Re: The 1959 Fender video - Always amazed me to see those guys and girls cutting out the Strat bodies using just a jigsaw. No CNC machines back then...
I wonder if it was the fact that the wood was handled by humans so much that made them sound 'better'. After all, wood is (was) a living entity, and having many people touch, shape and finish it during the build process must imbue the wood with something special? In many cases, people can tell if a piece of wood was shaped by hand or shaped by a machine, and it is not just the slight imperfections either... there is 'something else' in the wood that you can sense.
Perhaps this is what makes those guitars from that era so special? I hear the same things these days from people who have, say a Les Paul replica from Gil Yaron or someone like that - who builds a guitar from scratch, all by hand.
