JULY 31ST
ENTITLED BLUE VELOCITY
BLUES SHRAPNEL RECORDS
He is playing Shank Hall Sept 13th - anyone from Wisconsin going?
I really liked him - he's a blues guitarist - not borring - very friendly - he played for
3 hours last time we saw him at Shank. Let's be sure to talk about it when we see
Walter - we should get tickets right there to save the service charges if we want to
go
Roy: Definitely a "dont-miss" show in my opinion....I've been a fan of his for quite a few years...seen him several times and he always puts on a pretty impressive show....think SRV/Hendrix's love child....but with his own jazzy spin on it. I'd recommend "Texas Sugar Strat Magic" or "Tailspin Headwhack" to get an idea of what his groove is like.
Looking forward to the new release!

I've seen Chris a couple times. Probably see him again in Minneapolis on July 19. A little hard to categorize. Definitely has a jazzy, free-form style at times. I like him and would recommend him. Like Jaci said, he is very friendly.
He's also on a soon to be released Jeff Beck tribute album, "Freeway Jam: To Beck and Back" with the likes of Eric Johnson, John Scofield, Steve Morse, Walter Trout, Warren Haynes and others.

You'd think Joe would be on there. Who plays Jeff Beck almost as good as Jeff himself? Why the other J.B. of course. Rice Pudding, Blues Deluxe. Django definitely has a Jeff Beck feel to it.
Chris comes through Charlotte at least once a year and have seen him multiple times. He always plays his heart out and is very talented guitarist. I remember seeing him break something on his guitar and while he was in repairs, he quoted Shakesphere (sp) for about 10 minutes word for word, amazing! Carl's recommendations on his CD's are good ones to get.
Chris Duarte played at a small blues fest here and I got to stand right in front. He wailed on that guitar the entire time. It was exhilerating. At the end of 1 serious solo I emptied my pockets and threw all my $1's at him ( it was all I had). He said" It was worth more than that" and laughed. Nice guy! I then bought his CD and he only cut loose on 1 or 2 songs. Just my taste, but if you can play like that, don't rein it in! So let me know how this CD is and go see him when possible for sure. Carl, let me know the one you think I'd like best....Thanks, Cathy
Chris Duarte is one of my Fave Tunesters , Got such a funky feel to his songs and will certainly be purchasing his new cd
and one day hope to catch him live ....... his Texas Sugar CD is a mighty fine piece of Blues Work . Accquire at once
plus Tailspin Headwhack is very good indeed

hey guys
chris latest one called romp is kick ****
anyone hip to that?
I have Romp as well....and enjoy it....some of the live versions of the songs off of there are "off da hook" as they say in da hood. As far as solos on the studio CD's, not too much to offer, sort of short & sweet....except for Shiloh off Texas Sugar, sort of a SRV instrumental send-up. You HAVE to see him live to "get it" in my opinion.
He actually quotes Shakespeare with some regularity as he's tuning guitars, etc. It's cool and kinda weird.

AND HE HAS MADE A DVD WITH JAPANESE BAND CALLED BLUESTONE.
I HAVE IT.
IT IS KILLER.

My favorite song by him is Romp... The rest of CD is alright but not near as good as the title track.
I believe Chris is playing with Bluestone at Shank - I was wondering who they were -
sounds like a definite show to catch.

I have that bluestone dvd, got it off Duarte's web site; has everything on it but video quality isn't as good as JB's on some on bigger tvs. I'm still hooked on Texas Sugar & Tailspin Headwhack like Blues Deluxe. Hope his new cd is as good as his earlier ones. I'm into that funky style too.
I kinda live & die by amazon. Blues clubs in Anchorage & Fairbanks but just local players. I'm 500 miles from both places but Johnny Winter played Anch last summer, so a start.
I got some of the Indians from different villages listenin to Bonamassa; if ya make enough copies of blues deluxe, they get onto it. Indian bands in most villages playin old beat up teles. Actually, most villages have 15 mile radius fm stations and I get cd's to them, they get played at random; so I'll hear alot of Bonamassa on the radios here, ha.
Zhurh. I think it is way cool that you are here!!! My family homesteaded in Fairbanks. I was "Little Miss Fairbanks" 1953 (ouch!). Our land is now the airport! Planning a trip for 2009. I am also the proud owner of an ucipuck (sp?), poor walrus!!! So, why are you there? Native or for work? Regardless, keep posting. I envy your view of the aurora!! Must be stunning!!!! Cathy
Wife and I are teachers. Haved taught in MatSu & at Mentasta before here in Eagle (where the Yukon crosses from Canada) We've been in Ak 15 years, originally from north of Pittsburgh.
First pulse of kings is strong right now, making strips & waterin the garden this time of year. Everthings 4X the price to fly in so we eat alot what the land provides outta necessity.
Hunting & fishing isn't fun anymore when it's subsistence. Been hot & dry this summer but no big burns, 80-85 everyday. Last winter was coldest in 75 years, had a month of minus 60-65 every morn at 6 am, too dang cold.
When was last time you were in Alaska? Urban areas have changed alot, rural areas still same as always. Got to go downriver pretty quick to check fishwheel, cut fish; sure you know how that goes. I play guitar alot in winter, only get to kick the cowtipper on before bed this time of year. I have all JB's cds & dvd's and haven't given up hope on his best of book that I have had pre-ordered for over a year, it'll get done one of these days, haven't cancelled my amazon order. ha. I sure wish there were more dvd's or bootlegs. I have bunch of SRV bootlegs, Daytonna is really good. Do you know of any sources for Bonamassa DVD's other than the three out? Good Talking
