Topic: Les Paul

The PBS Series "American Masters" is about Les Paul tonight. Check your local PBS stations.

Re: Les Paul

I wonder if he is still playing once a week in NYC?  Isn't he over 90?
BTW, a couple of years ago when we went to Cleveland, at the Hall of Fame, they had a really nice display of Les Paul and how he got started.

Re: Les Paul

Saw just some bits and bytes of the program last night.  Very impressive show about Les and how he got started.  He was very innovative not only in his playing but his technology break throughs.  It was neat that he and his wife went to his old house in NJ and reminenced about recording in various rooms.  Will have to look to see this again.

Re: Les Paul

Hey guys, I caught the first hour of the show too and really enjoyed it.  We all should be that sharp mentally and as active as he is at 90 years old.  Oh the stories of his life and career are just unbelievable.....

Re: Les Paul

It was an excellent show. What a brilliant man! Like the show said, it was all about the tone. Just like our JB. He's still gigging in NYC every Monday. It looked like a very small venue. That would certainly be something for my "lifelist"......Cathy

That's really good to know that he is still playing in NYC every Monday.  Now just to get there...  Maybe when Joe is playing at BB Kings this fall.

Re: Les Paul

Man, I soaked that show up like a sponge! The man is still sharp as a tack too. It was cool to see Steve Miller sittin' in with him. I read some background on Steve where he talked about Les & Mary droppin' by to jam with his dad when he was a kid growing up in Dallas. He credits Les with inspiring him to take up the guitar. Can you imagine Les Paul droppin' by to pick a few tunes in your living room????????? If it weren't for Les and Tom Dowd who knows what music would sound like today. Les is from Wisconsin and Steve Miller went to school at UW in Madison where he started his namesake band, coincidence?????????????? If any of you Cheeseheads have any info, clue us in please.

Hi guys,

He actually was just in Waukesha, WI (his original home) not too long ago because they named a street in his honor. He performed for the people that attended the event. According to the article in our local paper he still has what it takes. I also saw an interview with him on local TV and he's just as sharp mentally as he ever was. We should all hope for such vitality in life.

Roy

I thought he was in town for his birthday....
Les Paul Parkway has been named that for years now.  ?

you can buy the street signs too!

I'm sold, Roy....you should be a travel agent or a writer.  We'll have to plan a trip around a Joe show, and I've gotta check out some theme-park action in the Dells.  Sounds like a vacation!

Thanks Roy, If I ever get to Wisconsin I'll look you up for a tour. I've got a friend here in Benicia who's from back there and everytime she goes home she brings me cheddar laced with salami bits which I've never seen here in Ca. Actually the last time they wouldn't let her bring it on the plane, threat to national security or something. I guess that cheese really is THE BOMB!!!
