Topic: Newcastle Metro Arena, 25th March, 2012

Kenny texted me from the show earlier to say that in tonight's performance Joe played Howlin' Wolf's Who's Been Talking' and also used Paul Kossoff's Les Paul on "Sloe Gin" and "John Henry".

Hot off the press, Joe has just played the title track from his new album "Driving Toward Daylight" as the first encore.

We're looking forward to the full review, Kenny. smile

I don't know about the sound issue, but the Beer issue, i totally agree with you. With the ticket prices as high as they are, one would think they'll be coming because of the music. Yeah, like you said, clowns!

Sheffield was the same, loads getting up, disturbing everyone, coming back with beer and disturbing everyone again. That's why I chose the tickets so no one was in front of us. If I can last 2 1/2 hours without beer anyone can....

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Nice photos and review - thanks for sharing. Not much to add - great gig, 9/10 for me - but I hate the Arena with a passion. Gig had almost no atmosphere - my son said it was like a fridge. Here's me harking back to smaller, proper venues. Gig at Newcastle Academy was a treat. Fully appreciate that its not gonna happen though!!

Re: Newcastle Metro Arena, 25th March, 2012

We were 5 rows from the front and the sound was fine. Given the venue size i thought the crowd would be bigger but there was empty seats on the left side and the stage was brought forward to accommodate the ticket sales. Would love to know how much there were compared to the capacity at the Newcastle City Hall where I would have preferred it to be.

This was my 3rd show of the tour and performance wise a continuation of the Murcia and Brighton shows. I loved the 2 new songs - "Who's Been Talkin" and "Driving towards the daylight" as the 1st encore. They replaced "You better watch yourself" and "Bird on a Wire". Although he didnt actually mention Paul Kossoff's guitar this time, he played a total of 7 songs with it including "Just Got Paid" instead of the Flying V.

Will also post a short Edinburgh review.
