I don't know what your spending limit is, but I picked up my Marshall JVM 210H for under 1k and with the pedals I already had, I can get a pretty good JB tone. 

I don't want to get too close, because that's Joe's tone, but the JVM can help

I think by "cheapest way" he means the absolute cheapest route.. I'd say if you're using just one amp, (tube amp) anything set cleanish with a fulldrive 2 in front will do the trick and get you very close. And just a basic (cheap) delay and reverb pedal, in that order, will fill in the sound for your effects. Assuming you already have a decent amp, these 3 pedals could be had for under 300 bucks with the FD2 being about half if you were to buy one new.

If you're going for a real low volume set up, the fulldrive 2 has a bit more gain than a ts808 so it will work better. 808 doesn't put out quite as much gain. Personally, I like the 808 (have a couple of them) but for low low volume, using it for your dirty tone, you'll need to stack it with some other OD..

I'm telling you   I think the cheapest way is the Marshall Class 5 and an Epiphone Les Paul. With a tube screamer pedal and a delay, should be good. Class 5 can be had for $399 or les.  A good Epiphone LP @ $500. All together it would be less than $1000.  That would be a great start!  Now I will say since I've added the Epi JB model, its even closer!!  I use a digitech RP150 to get my delay.

Now, on my digitech, I play at church and I use a custom made setting to get a good JB tone and the Epi JB Les Paul.  Sounds good too. RP 150 is @ $100.

I was in the "rock and roll" guitar store in Warsaw march 2 2012 after Joe's show and I've played the JB Epi so call them smile

You mean the one on Nowy Swiat? Well I checked the RnR here in Krakow, there just wasnt one... Anyway the new party is on the way, I heard in June...

Al. Armii Ludowej smile And as for cheep reverb try G Lab dual reverb. I've got the smaller version only with A/B foot-switch it costs about 325 zł. Joe uses the bigger version with A/B and On/Off switches with BCC but this one costs about 620 zł I believe, so... And it sounds really good smile

You might want to check the Baked Potato gig threads. Joe shows up with his minimal grabngo rig that he can toss in the car and gets his usual with a variety of guitars, including Fenders, not just LP's. Given some of his historic amps are out of your reach, but he does it with just a couple of pedals.

Im looking forward to trying my superchamp x2 with a les paul, and Im getting a JB fuzz face asap

Tech 21 Trademark 60, on the clean channel, with a Barber Direct Drive SS pedal - $750 in total.
