Topic: Acoustic show in Edmond

On a hot widndy day on the shores of Lake Arcadia in Edmond Oklahoma. Those in attendance were treated to a rare acoustic performance by Joe.

Below is the setlist from memory possibly left something out. I might have the order wrong as well.
Faux Mantini
Walk in my Shadows
You Upset Me
Blues Deluxe
Seagull
Palm Trees
Mountain Time
Miss You Hate You
Woke Up

As always Joe brought it to em. Highlights for me were Paul Rodgers song Seagull, and Palm Trees. The first time either of these songs were performed live.

Thanks Joe for stopping in and giving us something special.

Sounds like an awesome show Jim.  Melissa asked if any pictures were taken, how about if anybody taped the show?

Music is good for the Soul...

Wow! All I can say is....Wow!!  You sure get spoiled Jim! You deserve it though.  I had the same question as Dave #1...I DO know Joe should , hell MUST do an acoustic DVD one day hopefully soon...not up to it commercially Joe? Well the next acoustic show he does should be put to bootleg DVD at least...that Washington D.C. show I came SO CLOSE to flying down with my gear to film-I had even obtained permission from the venue, and we all know the rest..Jeff "Skunk" Baxter got up and jammed with Joe...Opportunity passed by...I have Palm Trees, Helicopters and Gasoline playing as I type..YES I (finally) GOT THE NEW CD!!! WOW (certainly more superlatives to follow)!!!

Seagull - wow I would have loved to hear that. It's an old favorite!

God I HATED that song when it first came out!!! It seemed to ruin the album's R-O-C-K theme, although some of it was just teen "cool, aren't we" type talk as anything NOT rocking at the time in my circles was subject to total derision...like other things, Carpenters music for example, it has grown on me over the years and it IS an awesome song...Love to hear Joe's take of COURSE!!!

To answer earlier questions. Yes and Maybe. Looking back on the show one of the things that struck me was during the set it was more song oriented. His voice made a statement not just the guitar. Of course Faux Mantiniand Palm Trees are instrumentals but he reached out and grabbed them with his voice. Don't get me wrong he ripped on the guitar but what stood out just as much was his pipes.

The tone of the evening was pretty laid back with the two acts before Joe. The volume was about like someone playing in your living room. I was hoping Joe would have them crank it to 10 and wake the place up. Didn't need to he woke them up with intensity from the stage not volume. Fifty minutes seemed like 15.

When I know how the maybe turns out I will let you guys know. I didn't take any photos but I know someone that did. I was promised the other by a regular at Joe's shows here. We'll see.

I couldn't help but sonically visualize (ok it's an oxymoron but so am I) Joe singing "Seagull" Jim.  That's what drew me back to the song was Paul Rodgers' voice made that song mesmerizingly beautiful (dare I say)...I hope (and bet) Joe tossed in a bit of his passion (dare I say) into the vocal, emotional da-da's and mmm-uhmmm's!

Re: Acoustic show in Edmond

Awesome. I sure hope someone was taping. I can visualize most of those songs acoustically, but I have such a strong mental image of Blues Deluxe electrically...I may need some help.
Oh yeah, an acoustic dvd sounds like a great idea to me too.

Re: Acoustic show in Edmond

as amazing as his electric talents are...the two shows I saw in March and at Blues Fest.,.the acoustic stuff just makes your jaw drop..many people can play one or the other but it is a rare talent that excels at both..and throw slide in as well....rare talent...
